Who says we have shot our bolt in Iraq.
==========================================
I say that if they try a massive surge and it succeeds, then they will start making plans to leave, and even when it becomes totally obvious that the Iraqis will not defend their so-called "democracy", then the snowball will be in motion headed down the mountain, and there will be no stopping it. The public has no stomach to approve of TWO surges.
On the other hand, if said massive surge obviously doesn't work, then again, they will have to leave as well.
That is why I say unto you, hear me once and listen to me twice, that the surge is the proverbial wad.
And shot once, it cannot be shot twice.
This war cannot be won, regardless of the bravery of the Army or the tenacity of the Marines, by force of arms.
It depends on the cohesion that Iraqis have for their ruined country. No amount of American weaponry or courage will serve to stick together what the Iraqis don't want stuck together.
It doesn't matter to me whether Iraq is one country or three or four or sixty. But it is not my country and it is not up to me.
Those of you who want a unitary Iraq should have not approved so slavishly this stupid, stupid war.
There is still a chance to save Afghanistan, but I hardly think that this will be done once the Great Surgewad has been shot.
I see no statuary of Juniorbush or Cheney likely in any place, other than the obligatory "library". They will probably have to put tthe Juniorbush's inside, where it can be guarded. There will be no statues of the snarling Cheney. He will be as forgotten as Hannibal Hamlin, if not more so.
