Democrats lied about being bipartisan

Dems Renege on Promised Bipartisanship, Group Says

(CNSNews.com) - A conservative group said Tuesday it is not surprised that Democrats are reneging on their promise of bipartisanship by planning to use House rules to prevent Republicans from offering alternative measures to a number of measures in their first 100 hours. House Democrats plan to assure the speedy passage of bills on a minimum wage hike, stem-cell research, and lower-interest student loans so they can claim early victories. "We are not surprised House Democrats are already reneging on their pledge to include Republicans in the legislative deliberations that begin this week - in fact, this is exactly what we predicted," said Focus on the Family Action Senior Vice President of Government and Public Policy Tom Minnery. "It's clear that Nancy Pelosi and her leadership coalition never planned to foster the civility and bipartisanship that they pledged during the election would be the hallmarks of their majority," said Minnery in a statement. "Though control of Congress has shifted, the Democrats should remember that Americans are still concerned with the preservation of marriage and life," he said. "American families will take note of this manipulation of House rules to preclude the minority party from fulfilling its role of providing balance and perspective to the Democrats' legislative agenda.""

You know how you can tell when  the  private jet of Republicans attending a convention has landed?

The whining noise continues after the engines have stopped.

House GOP: Don't Hurt Us -- Please
By Justin Rood - January 2, 2007, 11:48 AM

Republicans aren't yet an official minority in the House, but they're already beginning a campaign to portray themselves as victims of a heartless Democratic majority.

In a "Dear Colleague" letter circulated to fellow Republicans, three House GOPers are trying to push a "Minority Bill of Rights" -- based on a two-year-old proposal by then-Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-CA). You can read the letter here.

"Unfortunately, as you are well aware, the Democrats' forty-year reign over the House was plagued by consistent, systematic efforts to usurp the rights and privileges of the Republican minority," write Reps. Patrick McHenry (R-NC), Eric Cantor (R-VA) and Tom Price (R-GA).

They don't mention their party's own strongarm tactics -- which is striking, given that since 2002 Cantor himself was a member of the House GOP leadership, which was known for ruthlessly engineering legislative victories. "[R]eveling in the power they have, [Republicans] are using techniques to jam bills through even when they don't have to . . . simply because they can," is how congressional expert Norman Ornstein characterized the GOP's screw-the-minority tactics from 1994 to the present, according to a 2004 Washington Post article.

Republicans "have taken every one of the techniques that Democrats employed when they were in the majority, and ratcheted them up to another level," said the American Enterprise Institute scholar.

An ironic case in point: When Pelosi made her proposal to protect Democrats in 2004, GOP House Speaker Dennis Hastert (IL) refused to entertain the idea, let alone reply to her correspondence.

One can only assume that McHenry, Cantor and Price are hoping for a more sympathetic audience with Pelosi than the one she received then.

So Pelosi was for a Minority Party Bill of Rights before she was against it?

She was for it when it only affected her side, and now that it doesn't, she isn't.

I don't think she will come out looking real good on this one. Hardly the stuff of principled stands.

Barney Frank is intelligent, informed, funny, and very articulate.  He seems about as fearless as they come on the Democratic side, and relatively unpurchased.

How do you think you would do in a debate with him?

(Remember, in a debate, you cannot win just by snickering.)

Neither did Father Drinan. So what? The statement obviously only applies to those of us who pursue that specific activity.

Perhaps Knute needs to be a bit more precise in his blanket statements.

Somehow i don't think active heterosexual democrats fuck women like they are supposed to carries the intended sting.

I admit that it wasnt one of my more stellar rejoinders but it beats the hell outa "Dems are lying hypocrits"

What I should have said is that the Dems also promise to get something done and to include the known obstructionist deadbeat & corrupt Repubs at this time would not further that promise. The Repubs will have a lot of chances to delay & obstruct  in the next couple of years. They just wont have a free hand like before.
