Do the people of the USA feel the need of giant sized government?

Is it an illusion that we need four times the military power of any other country?

Is it an illusion that we need to spend six times as much on social benefits than any other country?

Is it an illusion that we need a rediculously cumbersome , complex and heavy tax system?

One way or another many of us are convinced that we really do need to support the government , we are fond of it and associate it with our nationhood.   Can we be patriotic and love our country but want the government cut down?

I think that someone whoj loves his apple tree prunes it, this concept can apply to people who love our nation but don't nececerily want the government to outgrow our ability to pay for it.

What do you want. What services does the federal govt provide that we would be better off getting elsewhere or doing without?

If we are sure that our enemys won't attack us we can pare defense down to the minimum that ensures this.

If we are certain that the government will not save us from starving , we will work and save and buy insurance and contribute to charitys.

(even)If we are certain that the government can get suffecient revenue from a simple tax system , we cannot pry from the Congress the power to controll and kill and micromanage that a complex tax system provides to them.

The beauty of a consumption tax is that the states are already set up to implement it. They can pass on a small franchise fee to the fed to maintain those services necessary at a federal level and administer the programs necessary for the inhabitants of the individual states. And since the tax is levied on a daily basis, those taxed will know the real costs of the services and determine if they truly are necessary.

Tell me about the last time it was, that the US Congress gave up a major power to the state governments?

I deem the Feds giving up taxing authority to the states in the form of a huge regressive sales tax to be a total non-starter.

Only Xo and fellow blinded libs can see a sales tax/consumption tax, where "the rich" buy more stuff, and thus taxed more, as being "hugely" regressive

Well, that would actually negate you, if you're referring to sane folks
