Johnson blasts Family Leader Pledge
« on: July 10, 2011, 04:24:55 PM »
July 9, 2011, Las Vegas, Nevada ? Presidential candidate and former New Mexico Governor Gary Johnson charged today in a formal statement through his campaign that the Family Leader ?pledge? Republican candidates for President are being asked to sign is ?offensive to the principles of liberty and freedom on which this country was founded?.  Governor Johnson also plans to further state his position against the Family Leader pledge this afternoon in Las Vegas, NV at a speech he will deliver at the Conservative Leadership Conference.

Johnson went on to state that ?the so-called ?Marriage Vow? pledge that FAMILY LEADER is asking Republican candidates for President to sign attacks minority segments of our population and attempts to prevent and eliminate personal freedom.   This type of rhetoric is what gives Republicans a bad name.

?Government should not be involved in the bedrooms of consenting adults. I have always been a strong advocate of liberty and freedom from unnecessary government intervention into our lives. The freedoms that our forefathers fought for in this country are sacred and must be preserved. The Republican Party cannot be sidetracked into discussing these morally judgmental issues ? such a discussion is simply wrongheaded. We need to maintain our position as the party of efficient government management and the watchdogs of the ?public?s pocket book?.

?This ?pledge? is nothing short of a promise to discriminate against everyone who makes a personal choice that doesn?t fit into a particular definition of ?virtue?.

While the Family Leader pledge covers just about every other so-called virtue they can think of, the one that is conspicuously missing is tolerance. In one concise document, they manage to condemn gays, single parents, single individuals, divorcees, Muslims, gays in the military, unmarried couples, women who choose to have abortions, and everyone else who doesn?t fit in a Norman Rockwell painting.

The Republican Party cannot afford to have a Presidential candidate who condones intolerance, bigotry and the denial of liberty to the citizens of this country. If we nominate such a candidate, we will never capture the White House in 2012. If candidates who sign this pledge somehow think they are scoring some points with some core constituency of the Republican Party, they are doing so at the peril of writing off the vast majority of Americans who want no part of this ?pledge? and its offensive language.

Actually, I doubt that Norman Rockwell would have agreed with any of this stupid pledge.

He was not a mean-spirited man, but a very caring and decent fellow, and he did have a talent for making a statement about American life in a positive way, as we see in his Saturday Evening Post cover of a young Black girl being escorted to school by federal marshals.

This odious pledge would have been rejected by some Republicans in the past,. but probably now by the TP types.

hope I got this right
http://www.politico.com/news/stories/0711/58591.html

I never even heard of such a thing. lately I actually starting to find real negative data against porn that I agree, but will likely not support the pladge since none of them deal with the issues I support.

pretty much porn never degraded woment it actually shows how lacking women are and that is the reason why men prefer computer games over a real date. totally makes sense. remember the phrase "the pleasure of your company" nowadays the term doesn`t get used honestly anymore.

seriously attraction between the two sex is going down.the anti-porn ladies totally got it wrong porn don`t make men into rapist. it makes them almost sexless.

This pledge also declares in its preamble that Black people had more stable families under slavery than now.

That is nonsense, and is also offensive. No pledge signed by any politician is likely to change the family structure of any group. You cannot legislate a two parent family. Hell, they have not managed to end Mormon polygamy with the legal system.

I dunno about that, but there is no doubt that liberalism and gov
programs have had serious adverse effects on the black family.
In fact if you look at the timeline of the advance of the welfare
state it coincides with the destruction of the black family.

1940 - Black illegitimacy in America = 19%
2008 - Black illegitimacy in America = 72.5 %

Kimba.....i agree to some degree
the way I figure 50% of all marriages end in divorce disaster
of the 50% that dont end in divorce
i suspect that at least 25% of the 50% that dont seek divorce
would either not marry the same person if they had it to do over again
or would seek divorce if they could, but economics/kids keep them from doing so.
so really roughly 75% of marriages today are a disaster
i'm not sure where porn fits in as a reason,
but there are many reasons why the sexes cant stand living together for long.

I question that the statistics for 1940 were correct.
People did not report births in the same way in 1940, most Black children were not born in hospitals, most couples were married in churches, not in any recorded civil ceremony.

In every country, when women are able to support themselves, divorce rates go up. The idea that all human beings mate for life is an erroneous assumption. Perhaps some do, but certainly not all.

When each member of a couple has his/her own career and circle of associates, they tend to grow apart. When people live together every day on the farm and see only one another, they grow closer together. This is not a "Liberal" trend, it is an urban trend. Conservatives blame "liberals" for everything. There are actually people who believe that the lack of prayer in the schools has increased the crime rate and resulted in more kids failing math. They are ignorami.

Here is another African American explaining how the welfare state
has hurt the black family and created generations of dependents
for the welfare pimps on the Left.

So how is a candidate signing a pledge going to have any effect on this at all?

Fox is famous for simplistic and incomplete stories that favor the reactionaries. That is what they are paid to do.

What does Fox have to do with this story?

The pledge story is all over the lib web, mostly bashing Bachmann for signing it. Johnson being a libertarian wants nothing to do with it.

I was commenting on the video that was posted, which appeared on Fox.

The pledge has nothing to do with Fox, but it is stupid.

I wouldn't sign the pledge if i were running either.

But the stats on children being born out of wedlock come from the census bureau. And yes there has been a swift rise in the numbers for whites also. 25% i think it is.

BT....on a related note
I was with a guy last week in Colorado and over drinks
he told me how his daughter is getting some kind of cash card
from the govt...she recently had a baby......he said his son-in-law
is not happy with his daughter because he has pride and tells
his wife..."babe I make good money...we shouldn't be taking govt help"
and she says "it's there for the taking....it's "free" money so what the hell".

I have been to his daughter's house....it's typical middle-working
class house with a nice new 52 inch flat screen TV on the wall.
A couple of newer type cars in the garage....

It's sad to see the govt make thieves and dependents out of people.
But that's the Left's game....create more dependents...a.k.a. voters for gvt help

Sounds like she has a WIC card which helps with prenatal and newborn nutrition, covers mostly dairy products and orange juice. I'm not sure if it props up the mother and child more than it does dairy and orange producing states, but in the long run it may save on medical expenses down the road. I'm not even sure the program is means tested.
