Little things that never happened.

Quote

On September 19, 2010, former Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert said that Bush offered to accept 100,000 Palestinian refugees as American citizens if a permanent settlement had been reached between Israel and the Palestinian Authority.[183]

Was he trying to resettle Detroit?

He was trying to get rid of Palestinians. Olmert is a sort of Liberal, and would prefer to resettle rather than shoot them.

I think Bush was giving an incentive to help solve the right of return issue.

I don't know whether the US House and Senate would have gone along with it, but it was an out of the box part of the solution. Kudos for Bush for coming up with it.

He was not the first to offer a home to Palestinians here in the US.

Palestinians, especially Palestinian Christians, have been coming here for a very long time. There are many fewer left in Palestine than there were in 1947, percentage wise.

Whatever his goals, this did not work.

Who was the first to set a quota as part of an Israel-Palestine peace agreement?

A set number (100k) of Palestinian Immigrants fast tracked to resettle in these United States.

That quota

It was a moot point, since there was no agreement. The Israelis have since continued building walls, expanding settlements and plundering resources.

BT you are "barking up a tree".....lol
XO is not going to give any credit to Bush for anything.
Even Bono states Bush saved millions due his push to supply treatment to AIDS patients.
But XO is not intellectually honest like some us
that have the ability to give our political opposition credit
as I have done numerous times with Clinton and Obama

I woonder if it would help?

I presume that if 100,000 Palestinians volenteered to move to Nevada and become American citizens none of their number would be of those committed wholeheartedly to the destruction of Isreal.

Perhaps it would give Palestians some elbow room and better political clout, but the ones with the mindset to fight would not be mollified nor removed from the fight.

One of the sticking points in negotiations is the so called right of return. Approximately 250k would be eligible according to various sources. Taking almost half of those into the US, would 1) add tacit recognition that the right of return is a right and 2. alleviate the pressure on Israel of assimilating all of them.

I mentioned Detroit because it already has a large Arab presence.

If the Israelis took the other half of the Palestinians into Israel as full citizens, that would be fine with me.
I suspect that Netanyahu would not accept even one.

I don't think that resettling Palestinians in Nevada would work. If the US accepted them as full citizens, they wopuld have no obligation to stay in Nevada.

There are good reasons why most of Nevada is empty. Much of it is an alkali desert. Not even water would make it useful for anything. Anyone who thinks that it is a fit place to live should drive up US 93 or US 95  sometime.

What advantage does Isreal have over Nevada?

It isn't better weather.

The Federal government owns a lot of Nevada , where elese would you give 100.000 people fourty acres and a mule?

You cannot grow enough on 40 acres of alkali desert to feed a mule. You would end up with a poisoned mule.

Israel is only PARTLY a desert. It is mostly not an alkali desert. The unsettled parts of Nevada are alkali desert.
You could never force a citizen, or even a resident, to live in Nevada or anywhere else against their will. They tried that with the Cubans and sent them all over the place. Most came back to Miami.

There is a reason why no one lives there.
