America has been moving toward a European-style socialist welfare state for years.

President Obama's arrival on the scene sealed the deal.

Obama's underlying message to Americans is stop dreaming, stop striving, we'll take care of you.

Now, we have more Americans than ever in history sitting at home on the couch,
waiting on their next government check.
 
Today's America today penalizes hard work while rewarding government dependence.
 
If you live in a very liberal area of the country and you know how to game the system.

It is entirely possible to live a comfortable existence without ever working too much at all.

In fact, there are some Americans that have been living off of "government benefits" for decades.

Many of these people actually plan their lives around doing exactly what they need to do to qualify
for as many benefits as possible.
 
Ever since the "war on poverty" began our debt has exploded and yet now there are more poor people
in this country than ever before. Obviously something is not working.

Disclaimer (this is not in reference to people who have worked hard all their lives and are
drawing checks. You worked for that money. it is yours. It is also not about those with real disabilities
who can not work. This post is about those who are able but refuse to work)

What has happened is that hundreds of thousands of workers have been replaced by robots.

The owners of the robots are unwilling to share the huge increase in productivity with their former workers or anyone else.

because they won't do this, there are not enough customers for the stuff they manufacture. Capitalism is its own worst enemy.

There were a lot of riverboatmen who were against the steamboat.

A good oarsman could deliver three tonns twenty miles a day, obviously a steam boat replaces an hundred oarsmen with superior service.

And yet ,, ... the oarsmen did not starve or bvecome destitute, they just found other jobs and quit being oarsmen.

The new economy, heated up by the much greater ability to deliver goods produced new jobs all over the spectrum.

Robots are very versitile can be built small or large and can take on many jobs, the increase in productivity is very likly to heat up the economy and produce new jobs, but will these new jobs also be filled by more robots?

Not quite, there are still jobs that people do better , these ought to be expanding also.

While its perfectly & realistically feasbile for people to be flown anywhere via airline by computers and "robotics", its unlikely in this lifetime that there will ever be the time that a human pilot is not in that cockpit, nor a stewardess in the aisle.

The number of pilots and flight attendants has been reduced already by the use of faster aircraft.

At many airports today, passengers are shuttled between gates by unmanned trains.

Drones are replacing manned aircraft in the air force.

Come back in 50 years and see how your predictions worked out.

Pilots and flight attendants are hardly the only people who work for airlines. They use fewer baggage handlers today because of automation.

What about cargo flights?

An Ekranoplan without a crew could opperate trans polar or trans ocean very effeciently and could be flown by AI with a remote pilot monitoring several of them.

You coould deliver a lot of cargo anywhere that there were no mountains or citys in the way.

The question reminds me of the RBE that "whats his name " espoused.

The idea being that Robots would do everything that was not artistic and everyone would be free from drudge work.

And we would be 100% on the dole.

I think these are good canadates for robot piloting.
When something goes wrong at 270+ MPH and twenty feet above the surface , you need faster than human reaction time for corrections.

What you woould get is freight carried with shipborne fuel effeciency and aircraft speed.

And a fantastastic sight if you were sailing near their traffic lane.

  I think you are half right , the public will not easily climbonto a plane without a pilot, but cargo doesn't care, so there might be a job for a robot mail and freight carrier.

   After a few years of safe cargo delivery , passengers might start to like the idea.
