The Syrians will always decide their own fate, eventually. Other countries can intervene, perhaps, but no one is going to make a colony of Syria, and anyone who intervenes will have to leave, eventually.
There could be worse dictators than Assad, but Al Qaeda has no chance of imposing one of their own.
