I said this because in casual conversation most folks will not say it`s slavery. in fact have the least sympathy toward them. due to the fact it`s mostly temporary and the debt kinda makes it acceptable .

I get your point , Davy Crockett spent some of his younger years in indentured servitude working off a debt, a lot depends on where you draw the line. When the debt demands obedience and is constantly renewed or increases and is owed for generations it becomes a sceme of enslavement.
If a reasonable term of work allows the debt to be paid off it doesn't seem so bad, the more volentary and temporary it is, the less it is slavery.

I think it is slavery because of the sex aspect which I find ironic since most folks find prostitution negative but would rather think ladies voluntarily get into debt to do it.

Don't forget the 7year contact irish immigrants had in the past. A large percent of them died before the contract ended

The PERCENTAGE of slaves, not the raw number is more significant.

Many people in countries with oppressive regimes have adapted to do pretty much everything they want. I would not label them as slaves.

It is clearly forbidden to publicly denounce the government of China.

If you are into assembling Ipods, growing rice or making noodles and cannot express your disfavor with  the government, you may be repressed, but you are hardly a slave.

I guess they don't wear chains all day , but this just makes slavery and freedom seem like a spectrum rather than a polar sort of condition.
