It is pretty obvious that the Civil Rights Bill would never have passed if only Blacks voted for it, since there were perhaps two Blacks in Congress at the time. If Truman had not integrated the military, it certainly would have taken a lot longer.

At least Black parents can point to President Obama and tell their kids, "See? some day you COULD be president".

How likely are they to point to Mitt Romney and say "some day, if you are a White Mormon tycoon, you can be president"?

I think Black people can decide completely by themselves whom will benefit them the most as president. They are not going to have a b=need to consult with some guy like sirs. Or me or you, either.

It would never have passed without the support of many White people, irrespective of political party.

Slavery would not have been abolished if not for White people advocating abolition.

   So we are talking about reasons to vote for Obama completely diffrent from having good government.

   I accept this as a truth then, having Obama as president can have good consequences , haveing nothing to do with good government at all.

    I still plan to vote for the best government I see offered, and I don't see Obama offering anything like good government.

      But putting a period on the era of racism might make him valuable in spite of all.

      I don't think he needs two terms for that.

SOME White people will clearly vote for Romney and Ryan because they are racist. This is also undoubtably true of some Black people as well. You know what your motives are. Anyone else is free to speculate about motives as well.

The most important issue is NOT whether President Obama gets a majority of the votes of Black Americans: it is about the percentage of those Black Americans that turn out to vote.

Because its literally as simple as black & white.  If you vote for someone based on race, in your view, that's not racist.  so, then if white folks are voting for a white canidate, not because of his policies, but primarily because he's white, that's apparently not racist, according to your parameters.  White candidates that reach out and advocate that whites for him/her, is apparently not racist either, according to Xo.

But you did.  You made it crystal clear that people can vote any way they want, & if they do so with the motivation of pride in their race, as the main reason, then that's just fine as far as you're concerned.  Is that position now changing??  I really wish you would make up your mind

It is leagal to vote on any issue you choose and base your opinions on any opinion you wish.

If 48% of white people choose to vote for a white guy it is leagal to assume that this is racism.

If 98% of black people vote for a black person it is leagal to assume that nothing like racism is involved.


Think about it tho, would you want this to be any other way?
If there were a law against having a wrong opinion , there would have to be a government agency in charge of telling you when you were right.
If you had to know the issues and have logical conclusions about them before you were allowed to vote, there would be a government composed test to take in frount of the voting booth.
So those who belive that the US owes a black guy a vote should be allowed to vote just as well as someone who believes the president must be a Kenyan.

First off, sirs is a total idiot. He has no idea of what even he himself is talking about in his constant barrages of word salad. Discussions with him are like discussions with an infomercial.

A US election, everyone who is registered votes. Perhaps we would be better off if voting were compulsory, as in Australia or Ecuador. We would not know even if we tried it.

It is legal to assume anything about anyone's motives. We have no laws against having an opinion, even a totally balmy opinion is legal.

I did not say at any time that I wanted it to be in any other way. I support former criminals being able to register and vote once their sentences are served. Gov Rick Scott does not, because he suspects, probably correctly, that they would not vote for assholes like him. I would be willing to try compulsory voting. I support a total ban on paid political announcements on TV and on radio, and would instead require stations top provide a specified number of hours to each candidate that got a minimum of 5% of registered voters to sign in their favor. Any station that refused would have their license to broadcast yanked. The airwaves do not belong to the radio and TV stations, they belong to the American people and should be used for the benefit of the people.I would ban all PACS from running any ads at all, anywhere and forever.

The news media provides adequate coverage of the platforms of the candidates most of the time.
