Eagle lugging a deer head causes a blackout in Juneau, Alaska

JUNEAU, Alaska: About 10,000 Juneau residents briefly lost power after a bald eagle lugging a deer head crashed into transmission lines.

"You have to live in Alaska to have this kind of outage scenario," said Gayle Wood, an Alaska Electric Light & Power spokeswoman. "This is the story of the overly ambitious eagle who evidently found a deer head in the landfill."

The bird, weighed down by the deer head, apparently failed to clear the transmission lines, she said. A repair crew found the eagle dead, the deer head nearby.

The power was out for less than 45 minutes Sunday.

Had a "traffic jam" one morning (three cars) because a bear decided to eat her fish on the road. Literally.

Here in san francisco A crow flew into a muni powerline and shutdown the metro for at least 3 hours.
I think this is way more common than it we think.

Georgia barely has any Eagles so few that sightings will stop traffic.


About fifteen years ago an Eagle was noticed roosting in the trees within sight of Seven Bridges road.

Traffic was snarled there for three days before someone noticed that the bird was abnormally still.

A Helicoptor and a long hook was used to dislodge the styrofoam model of a bald eagle and traffic returned to normal.

The only thing like it that I've ever seen here is the mama duck and baby ducklings waddling across the Y-Bridge to the grainery, and all the traffic stops.   You see people going "Awww."  And probably saying other things, too...
