I was thinking that most Egyptians are fond of their heritage, this attitude must be shared by a minority.

But If I am wrong , I have to suppose that the government of Egypt has a right to destroy the Spinx if that is what they want to do.

Not everyone is agreed that the monument on stone mountain is a good idea, we don't even have unanimous approval of the Crazy Horse carving.

But suppose the US became mostly Muslim, why would we keep Mt. Rushmore?

It is seriously un-Islamic to make or especially to revere a carved image of a Human Being.
The Islamic attitude twards the Statue of Liberty is probly that it is evidence of our unrightiousness.

I don't know if there is any real threat at all, even to the pyramids, havent they survived a few centurys of Islamic government already?

In Egypt this might not be the same, I really think that the people in Egypt take pride in having such a long history.

Most pf the French people are nonbelievers, but I doubt that there is even ¼% of the French that would tolerate tearing down Notre Dame or Montremarte Basilica. The US will never be "mostly Muslim", but even if it were, I don't think a majority of the people would want to tear it down. Syria, Turkey, Jordan, Egypt and Libya are full of buildings made by Greeks, Romans and Christians, and there is no movement to destroy them, because they are part of the ancestral heritage.

The Pyramids and the Sphinx are major tourist attractions, and tourism is one of Egypt's major industries.No way they will destroy them. Egyptians do indeed strongly identify with the ancients, at least the ones I know.

I was not around. Borglum got fired from that job, anyway.

When the mural on Stone Mountain was carved, they could have certainly spent that money on other purposes. There was no need for the mint to issue commemorative half dollars to sell. But now that it is there, I see no reason to destroy it at all.

I think Crazy Horse is the most interesting of those monuments. I have nothing against them.

There is a monument carved on a wall in Mexico between Highway 57 to Piedras Negras and Linares on the east west highway that commemorates the Mexican Revolution. There is nothing around it for miles and miles. You just turn a corner and there it is. No tourist stuff, not even a sign about who did it.

Egyptians are not going to destroy the Pyramids. That is just dumb. The sort of thong that fanatic Muslims say to annoy fanatics like "Christians".

It's a stupid move just like the taliban destrying the budha.
The thing is a greater asset intake than destroyed. Both cases it can be used as a revenue source to help thier people but instead both groups think it's destruction as a grand gesture will be better than helping it's citizens.
