"And if you come at me with an intent to hurt me or my family, you'll go down.  Simple as that"

Ah huh, and no one else feels that way of course. The difference being most of us are endowed with all the natural radar, and other information gathering equipment, evolution armed us with. Most of us use that equipment and don't dwell on, or let our lives be dictated by, extremely rare possibilities. If such a rare possibility occurs we deal with it with cunning and if that fails, it fails. Death and injury are the on opposite side of the coin from birth and health. They both are going to happen.

The largest threat to your life and health is your attitude, Sirs. Packing won't cure that, in fact it will exacerbate those parts of your attitude that threaten you the most.

"The purpose of a gun is to defend oneself..."

There is no purpose, in terms of defensive or offensive, built into a gun. The purpose built into the weapon is to operate effectively. Offensive or defensive uses are dictated by the operator.

Ummm....and what's that supposed to mean?

Strange, neither do I.  Fancy that

If such a rare possibility occurs we deal with it with cunning and if that fails, it fails.

Nope, that's where you'd be wrong, in that the health of me and/or my loved ones takes priority.  Can't speak for your priorities

Death and injury are the on opposite side of the coin from birth and health. They both are going to happen.

The largest threat to your life and health is your attitude, Sirs.

With all due respect to your supposed superior intellect, you have no fricken clue what threaten's my life or health.  If it happens to be someone with a knife, or some hyper angry liberal drawing on me, like he's some arrogant know-it-all, I'll have the where with all to put that threat down.  Simple as that.  And its not just packing, is packing minus the ignorance of how guns can and should be used, that is precisely the cure

The attitude that produced this outburst, which is par for the course, is the kind of attitude that packing waters. Try planting a more congenial seed and water that.  It will be more life affirming then spending your time in here ranting about your right and need to carry a concealed deadly weapon.

No more than my right to free speech.  And BTW, there is no NEED to carry, so you can dispense with that irrelevant strawman

", there is no NEED to carry, "

I've been saying that all along, which begs the question, why the hell do you?

http://www.nbc40.net/story/20322219/court-ruling-on-ill-gun-ban-sets-stage-for-fight

Quote
CHICAGO (AP) - Backers of Illinois' ban on concealed weapons vowed Wednesday to fight for continued controls on gun possession, a day after a federal appeals court struck down the nation's last such prohibition as unconstitutional and ordered the state to craft a law allowing it.

Chicago aldermen joined gun control advocates in urging state Attorney General Lisa Madigan to appeal the ruling from the 7th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals. Gov. Pat Quinn and Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel said they would work with legislators to come up with a new law that would be sure to protect the public.

"I think it's important that we stress that public safety comes first," said Quinn, an ardent supporter of gun control, adding that people with a history of mental illness who are involved in domestic violence should not be able to carry weapons.

"I think that's where the people of Illinois are on this issue and anything having to do with guns and assault weapons and things like that. We cannot have those sorts of people eligible to carry loaded weapons on their person in public places, whether it be malls or churches or schools."

Quinn also said he will push for a ban on military-style assault weapons.

The ban's defenders said they expect a battle in the Legislature over the next six months as the state seeks to comply with the court order to craft a new law within 180 days. They noted that a number of states that allow concealed carry - such as Wisconsin, which approved it last year - still restrict where citizens can carry weapons.

"I expect a battle," said House Majority Leader Barbara Flynn Currie, a longtime gun control advocate. "The proponents of concealed carry have not yet carried the day."

Gun rights advocates, who long have argued that the Illinois ban violates the Second Amendment, celebrated the ruling as a major victory in their campaign to make Illinois the center of the national debate over gun control after Wisconsin tossed out its ban on concealed carry last year.

The gun rights backers interpreted the 2-1 appellate court ruling as a mandate instructing lawmakers to pass a bill allowing citizens to carry concealed weapons in public with few if any restrictions. Todd Vandermyde, a National Rifle Association lobbyist, said gun control advocates could forget any limits such as partial bans near places such as day care centers and schools.

I imagine that sirs is as obnoxious and annoying a bore in public as he is in here. I can easily see why he thinks he needs to be packing heat, since he KNOWS he is an annoying obnoxious asshole.

Must have missed the part where I made it crystal clear that sirs does not need to carry.  No one, outside of law enforcment needs to carry

But by all means, keep digging that hole

I've had the same thought many times. The thing is Sirs has no intention of becoming less obnoxious. He just keeps rolling with it post after post. Does that have something to do with the fact that he carries for no real reason? You bet. Carrying for no real reason is also obnoxious.

Someone wondered out loud why I called Sirs an idiot. He's an idiot not because he's dumb. He's an idiot because you can't post with the guy without him being incredibly obnoxious.
