ABILENE, Texas (AP) -- Abilene police say a 34-year-old man has been shot and killed by his estranged girlfriend after he barged into her home.

Police found Earnest Gonzales wounded early Wednesday in the front yard of the woman's home. He died later at a hospital.

Authorities say Gonzales tried to break in Christmas night but fled. He returned hours later, forced open the door and assaulted the woman. She managed to retrieve a handgun and fired once, hitting him in the left side. The woman's two children -- 16-year-old and a newborn -- were in the home at the time.

Police say the woman had legal possession of the handgun and the case would be referred to a grand jury. They also say no criminal charges are expected.

This death will add its meaning to the statistic of the gross number of deaths and injurys caused by gun violence in the US.

So does every wound caused by the police .

While those who will use those stats, continue to ignore how the gun largely saved not just her own life, but possibly the the 2 children's as well.  At least it didn't leave them motherless

I don't know if there is such a thing as a trustworthy statistic being compiled anywhere for these events.

National Rifleman cites ten or twelve such anecdotes every month , but they are not bothering to total up the prevalance, would their study be taken seriously if they did?

Gun controll advocates use statistics that compile every bullet wound , no matter what the cause, so thet the attacking criminal counts the same as the suicide and the same as the innocent victim, they could at least subtract the ones shot by the police .

We are all so sold on our instinctual understanding that we are all preventing the operation of science.

In countries where there are fewer guns, many fewer people get shot, both intentionally and by accident. The crime rate is generally less in such places as well.

What has happened in the US is that gun nuts have convinced huge herds of imbeciles to buy more and more guns, to the degree that there is no way of preventing the damage they will do to Americans. The argument that we need  pistols and rifles to overthrow the government is bogus, and the times have changed so greatly since the 2nd Amendment was written that it no longer serves the purpose of this bogus Militia of the Unknown, which is in no way "well-regulated".

It is all a huge steaming load of crap that is eaten up by dolts like sirs.

The constitution, especially the second amendment, is simply OBSOLETE.

Pretty much like the part where a slave is worth 3/5th of a White man for the purposes of representation, or Senators being elected by the legislature.
