India is a huge country with a population 4X that of the US.

I would say that a cycling tour of the countryside is not at all a good idea. I am sure most Indians would never consider it.

It may or may not be safer than Mexico.I would not try cycling across Mexico, either.   A woman might get robbed even in the US but gang raped is not likely. Rapists here are few, and tend to rape individually rather than in teams, or so I have heard.

Sadly maybe not
I still remember that girl from richmond high school. The defense was it was consentual despite she was unconscious.

In fact i believe another simliar case just happened afew days ago except the girl was not was not a minor.

I would say these are very bad times, but  i recently when through my memory and can't say much has changed with the exception of more deadlier toys. People were no more honerable in the past.

I think that gang rape is more common, even on a per capita level, in India than in the US.

Americans are less sexually repressed than a lot of Indians, and Americans mostly do not fancy the idea of having sex in front of other guys.

Gang rape surely happens here, but it is more rare than in India. The law in India is very sexist and biased towards men. A woman who reported a gang rape to the police might worry about the police raping here as well. In some Muslim societies, the raped woman is worthless, since none will marry her. There are cases of women being killed by their own families to remove the disgrace from the family.
