I say that we cannot wipe out the entire male population of any nation in order to "bring democracy" to it. How could anyone disagree with that?

The Japanese started WWII. I hardly think that the Syrians will attack Pearl Harbor and give us an excuse to destroy their entire male population.

You can't say the method is impossible to us , and in the same paragraph cite an example of our doing exactly that.
Al Quieda killed almost three times as many people in the 9-11 attack as the Japaneese did at the Pearl Harbor attack. There is a real need to kill Al Queda and their allies untill they surrender or get broken enough that a repeat performance is unlikely.

Frankly I think that something less than killing all of the men of a nation might be sufficient to engender democracy.

Do you really think that nothing less would work?

Nothing that the US can do in Syria will put a government in power that Americans will like. We are not willing to repeat the performance in Iraq or even Afghanistan in Syria. We should not even consider trying.
