Was it an actual cruise to Hawaii or just a trip?  I went on a Windjammer cruise myself, a while back....WOW.  What islands did you hit, Kimba?

those horror stories kind of scare me
my best friend got DEATHLY ILL on his honeymoon cruise
he was worried he could actually croak
in a fetal position with screaming squirts for 48 hours

plus I am slightly claustrophobic and just think the
loading/unloading, tiny rooms,  ect....could trigger an episode

i would rather just go to a really nice resort
but lots of people love cruises
it just seems like it's not my cup of tea

The big ship cruises are designed for people who like to say they have traveled outside the country, but are afraid of foreigners and their weird food, languages and cultures. They also allow people to gamble in casinos where the odds tend to be far worse than Vegas and to overeat.

The food is excellent. My Mercedes Club used to be able to wangle an invite to the Cruise Travel Agents free in-port tours, which included a really great meal.

I have been on one cruise to Grand Bahama, which was pretty boring. The casino there was the most unpleasant public place I have ever been in. The people exchanging chips were on platforms 4 feet higher than the main floor and there were cameras everywhere.  The idea of being trapped on a boat for a week or two does not appeal to me. I prefer to travel with the locals, eat in the local restaurants and stay where the locals stay. This rules out the smaller Caribbean Islands, because all the hotels are for tourists. You can travel to any point in Barbados from any other point in several hours, so there are no local hotels. Tourist hotels claim to be "reasonably priced" at $100 a night. Hotels in the Dominican Republic where I go range from $15 to $32.  Of course, there are tourist hotels everywhere.

I suppose to really visit the smaller Islands, you would need your own boat.

Finally back needed a day to adjust to america despite hawaii is called ametica. I feel inlove with the place hard!!. Gonna go back definately. The cruise is a 15 day trip from sam fran to ensenada to hawaii then back to san fran. Four islands.

I got no withdrawels being cut off from civiliaztions.
Cruiseship food will keep you alive is what I'll say about that. Lets just say the taste doesn't match the name. Took for surprise how quickly i feel inlove with the islands. If you don't hear from me after one of my trips to hawaii. You'll understand. I knew many hawaiian attorneys and they take all thier vacations to hawaii never anywhere else. Totally understand now. I'll even go as far to say most hawaiians i know don't want to live in the mainland but do so for economic reasons.

I may have to find a serious job just to buy a condo and disappear in the near future.

Cruise are great for getting ataste of the worlds. Kinda like a gateway drug fir travelling. I totally love it. This fall maybe puerto rico. If you plan what you put in your computer being trapped on a ship will not be a problem. Remember it has pools ,hottubs ,steambaths & saunas. Not abad trap to be in. But bring your own collection of movies & books will help alot. They have great places for quite reading. Note you will be cut off from the world.

Horror stories

Thier was a moonsoon nearby and it made the ship extremely rocky that I almost got sick the scond day but recovered pretty well afterwards. Nobody was walking straight the whole trip.. It made the pools sloosh alot. The kids had a great just floating in them riding the waves. It's totally not safe but they loved it.

Warning when your my age on the cruiseship and have most of my parts in decent shape all the grandmothers want to hook me up with thier available grand daughters. Formal night was real bad.
So yes it got real scarey on that ship

thank you

gotta admit it gave me a perspective how things are. I was in a farmers market buying a fruit I don`t know and the merchant didn`t even know what it is also. meaning he litterally picxk it off a tree while coming to the market.. I bought alot of fruit that the seller doesn`t know the name it is. All of it delicious. I took great efforts exploring for food not common in the mainland and was greatly rewarded. I got marlin jerky!!!!

Fly there

Cruises are good way to get a taste of a new place to explore. Remember it was 9days on at sea and fours days at the actual islands. I prefer doing cruises for places i've never been to. But I've met people who actually done hundreds of cruises. The cheapguy in me can't handle doing such a thing soo often. Next year possibly alaska due to the fact the port is in san francisco. It's incredibly attractive to go to a cruise without flying to it. That ship I was in had a ton of bayarea natives in it for that very reason.

Cruises has some unique stuff like dance and exercise classes , live shows  and various activities. I never cracked a book while I was there.
