I know GDW he could have, if he really wanted to.  You can try to blame the tea partiers for everything including the bubonic plague and scabies, but that doesn't make any of your meritless accusations any more valid than they already were.  He could have, he chose not to, outside of some token rhetoric

People wonder why there's such a backlash from BOTH Republicans & Democrats, not just tea partiers......."The fact that our government negotiated with terrorists and our enemy is incomprehensible. The fact that they exchanged five war criminals for a traitor is sickening. The worst part for those soliders that suffered & died through that time is that PFC Bergdahl is being hailed as some kind of hero. He was automatically promoted to Specialist and Sergeant, ranks he does not deserve and did not earn. He will likely receive back pay for these past five years, a substantial sum. There will be book deals, and his family are celebrities. I am glad he is safe, and happy for his family, but he should return home to face a court martial."

You know goddamned well that the President could NOT have closed Guantanamo.

Why not?

I think that it was apparent to him, once he became President, that keeping the  Guantanamo prison open as long as he is president was the best choice for his presidency.

He is whittling it down perhaps he will close it just in time to hand the results to his successor .

Maybe.

But the Army promoted the guy twice while he was in captivity.

They do this while thinking he is a deserter?

There is more not yet told.

Pretty much the calling card of this administration

What? Now you blame the Administration for not trying and disciplining this guy in absentia?

The Army has a process for getting at the truth, and yes, I am sure they can handle the truth, even if Jack Nicholson's character said they could not.

At least wait until all the facts are in.

This entails deposing everyone who knows anything.

What the frell??  Yet another deflective strawman, since no one is claiming that, or saying he should have been demoted, in "absentia".  Best wait until the facts are clear before promoting anyone however    :o

Truth and liberals are not often on speaking terms, so while it's agreeable to allow all the facts to come out, trying to "swiftboat" those soldiers who are no longer under gag order as somehow universally being in cahoots with one another in framing this "innocent" man, is wholly inconsistent with deductive reasoning.....or rational thought for that matter

No , I feel I have been misunderstood.
Sorry for being unclear.
To be concise I should say.

Given the same set of facts and choices , I might have chosen the same as President Obama did .

My reservations are about the missing facts.

Whether he was AWOL or not, "Bring every soldier home" trumps the "We never negotiate with terrorists" bit. which is not true of the US or any other country.
At most it just means they negotiate secretly or through third parties.

Reagan negotiated with the  Ayatollah. just to screw over Carter.

The soldier has not yet been tried or judged for anything, and you are not a court of judge.

Your opinion on that is duly noted

The soldier has not yet been tried or judged for anything, and you are not a court of judge.

And yet there you were condemning the likes of Zimmerman for hate crimes, before he was even arrested.  Sorry, the double standard doesn't work here.  If I were on a jury, I would take into account all information before rendering a verdict.  Since I'm not, I have no problems using deductive reasoning, as every other rationally minded person could do, to decide for myself the status of Bergdahl.  I'll start with what his own platoon has been saying saying, and end with Bergdahl's own correspondences towards his platoon leadership & family on what his frame of mind & intentions were

Meet Mohammad Fazi just one of those great terrorist that this administration
traded for the deserter.

He seems like a really proud terrorist in this photo,
I sure hope everyone feels safer knowing this guy is now free.
