K?xué F?zh?n Gu?n.

China is still centrally planned , tho now the grip of the central planners on the economy is moderated in favor of allowing economic expansion.

The current thinking and philosophy of governance is called "Scientific Outlook on Development".

    It isn't the American way.

Why, of why, would the Chinese try to do anything "The American Way".

The leaders of China are rather repressive and oppose free speech at times.

However, they have also led the longest period of constant growth in recorded history.
When the US had its greatest growth periods, they  were always punctuated with busts and unemployment usually between five and ten years.

China has enjoyed over 20 years of constant growth.  The economy has grown between 5 and 14% constantly since 1994.

The majority of the Chinese people are more concerned with full employment and a growing economy than personal liberty.

Because China is an extremely poor country and the US sits in one of the top spots of the
Human Development Index....and China sits way way way back around #100

They do not!

I bet they don't even do as they plan and propose.

Much seems ad hoc, as is our way also.

Actually china has always been capitalistic but just not the way america is. It's a two economic system which the capitalist side has steadily been growing. Presently it's labor system is superior to america. Meaning it takes advantage of it's lower educated people to do the bulk of it's production. I'll even estimate in less than five years it'll be a challenge in the in innovation dept. it's already has more support in the creative field than anything the U.S. Has done.

Ex. It's already has a scifi convention sponsered by the state. America pretty much frown upon anything that teaches creativity.

China could never develop as rapidly as the US by adopting the US system as it stands today. China is growing at double the US rate.

The US developed in many ways just as China is doing: stealing European technology, copying patents, and paying little attention to the enforcement of foreign patents. This occurred from US independence right up to WWI. Read your history.

I totally know about the parallels of china today comapred to america in the past but  this is not a contest of speed and china has no intention of becoming america but it'll cherry pick all the desireable stuff from america .

Kimba is right.
The Chinses do not think in the same was as Americans do, and copying American business models would in several ways, just tick the workers and perhaps the managers off

The main goal of the Chinese leaders is to maintain a growing consumer economy. Essentially, governing China is like riding a tiger. If you slow down, you fall off and you get eaten.

Do you mean that their leadership is doomed ?

Or that there will never be any slowing down?

In the long run, China's growth will slow down.  I suppose they are hoping that by then the middle class will be large enough to serve as an anchor.
It is the nature of capitalism to have booms and busts.

The Chinese government has more control than any American government ever has had, and they understand how capitalism works very well.
It is sort of like a corporation: everyone knows that they are headed towards a cliff up there somewhere, but they just want to be retired before it happens.

personally I don`t even think they think that far ahead . it`s more like a teenager who just got his first credit card in college and knows how to fly to vegas and rent a fast car and get a fake ID . not really concern what happens after graduation. Not admitting that actually happened to me. yeah that`s the ticket

There are some things I hope the Chinese do not do as Americans have done.

I hope they do not feel "Manifest Destiny".

Well certain things are coming into play that they simply can't ignore. Ex. Product safety has tragicly effcted them locally so corruption in those areas will never be the same. Labor practices are changing to the point they can't just throw money at it.

The Chinese do not believe in "Manifest Destiny", but they do believe that everything that was ruled by the last emperors or that paid them tribute, like Tibet, is Chinese. They believe that Taiwan, Tibet and the Muslim parts of Western China should be part of China. I don't see them trying to annex Mongolia or Nepal. They will make a lot of bluster over those offshore uninhabited islands that Japan, the Philippines and Vietnam all claim.
