With all due respect Kimba, I never said that Obama was elected simply because he was Black.  However many folks voted for him, precisely because he was Black, and not much else.  Samuel L Jackson comes to mind, not to mention scores of on the street interviews, following the election, thus one of the reasons he was voted in as President of the US was indeed the novelty of believing they were a part of electing the 1st Black President.  So will be the case with Hillary......for MANY....in believing they're being a part of electing the 1st Woman President

Maybe, remember she's a woman. It may sound sexist but that is a harder sell than race. One of the biggest opponents to feminism is women. I know several women who don't believe women should ever leave the kitchen .

Should alimony be more common , or high wages easier for Women to earn?

Alimony in some states is somewhat ridiculous. The idea that a couple of years marriage to some guy entitles the wife of half of everything is ridiculous. It is also ridiculous for the husband to get half in similar situations.

When one gets marriage, one should have the option of choosing separation of assets or joint ownership.  That is incorporated into the Mexican Constitution of 1917 and is clearly the way to go on this issue.

  The basic idea is to see best to the welfare of the children involved.

   But assuming that the woman involved is better for looking out for the children isn't perfectly fair.

It is hardly up to Americans to evaluate what foreigners think of the US.

The foreigners give their own opinions.

I would expect that the Pakistanis would be less friendly, what with the drone killings and the fact that fanaticism is worse there than it was years ago.

It is certain that if the US has the bad fortune to end up with a fanatic like Ted Cruz in the WH,  we will be disliked even more than when Cheney and Juniorbush were in office.

Texas does not have alimony, but has "community property" and of course child support.

My friend actually thought it's ok that her ex should pay her and child support before rent. She was upset I told don't worry that's not done anymore because it's just too stupid to legally too continue.  Somehow peole did not understand you can't maintain an income if you live in a car. What really confounds me is ex-wives who call thier exhusbands job to demand higher pay for increased support payments. I've actually know 3 people this happened already and two of them lost thier job because of this.

It is not guys like Michael Jordan or Paul McCartney that are most harmed by community property arrangements. They might have had to pay millions, but it did not appreciably affect their lifestyle. It is the average guy who ends up having to sell everything and perhaps to live in a trailer or something to support the wife, who cannot find anything but a McJob or no job at all.

The idea that humans naturally mate for life is a nice romantic concept, but it most certainly is not a true description of the way that everyone functions. People change despite all efforts to stay the same. They do not change in the same ways. either. If one of the couple can only find a graveyard shift job, or a sedentary job that causes them to blimp out, that will force severe changes in the relationship.

Perhaps back when most of the people in this country were farmers, there was more stability. But that is no longer the case.
