Seriously.  I mean, its beyond pathetic, that its this kind of mindset that's now teaching students "history".  Revisionist history perhaps.  I guess she must also teach that 911 was an inside job, and that the Holocaust was just a ruse    >:(

If truly compared , won't Dr. MLK Jr. be a very great contrast?

There is a lot of difference between a self sacrificing , nonviolent, resistance and civil disobedience and violently breaking the rules.

I see this as a unresolveable issue of race. the question  do african-americans get wrongfully convicted. the answer is many don`t care if it happens or not. the common answer tends to be he must be guilty of something. I totally disagree mumia should be compared with MLK but i just like to place attention on the subject of wrongful conviction in general and note it does get brushed aside with little concern.

I agree that wrongful conviction is horrible and is worth a lot of effort to avoid.

Is there reason to think that this is a case of wrongful conviction?

If someone else has been wrongfully convicted, or hundreds of others were wrongfully convicted , even if these cases had race in common , it is not a cure for any of them to let a guilty guy off on their behalf.

Efforts to make trials more fair and avoid wrongful conviction , I cold support.
Not an effort to make the rates statically more evenly spread , that doesn't seem like the same thing.

To be clear i don't believe this is the case, but the subject of his race is often wrongfully convicted is what gave him so much support.

Yes, but that's not what this history teacher is claiming, as to why they both should be included in any educational curriculum.  She's actually trying to put these 2 on the same level as persons to "look up to".  In fact, to this "professor", MLK was just as much a "radical" as the convicted cop killer, thus the twisted rationalization as to why they should both be taught in school as "civil rights leaders"

I see this as a unresolveable issue of race. the question  do african-americans get wrongfully convicted.

I'm sure there have been.  The next question is do white-Americans get wrongfully convicted?  Do Chinese-Americans get wrongfully convicted?  Our system is not perfect, but its likely the best, as it relates to criminal justice and trials.

Mumia was not only convicted here, his case has been appealed on every level this "professor" was trying to raise in the interview.  And on every level, the conviction was upheld.  So, I really can't seen how this could be an issue of a wrongfully convicted African-American.  Currently it's an issue of severe irrationality, that Mumia should be compared on the same "civil rights level" as MLK, supported by Unions and apparently "History" teachers

I have no idea why this particular person became the focus of wrongful conviction of african americans but he is and it looks like guilt will not nullify this one case.but I do understand how easily that community will think of false conviction. I can confirm generally african`americans has it more difficult than most groups. who else do we know gets followed in stores or pulled over for just driving in a nice car.  I`ll also say abit of it is cause by their own action. ex. the trayvon martin incident made kids to start wearing hoodies as a symbol of protest which is simply stupid.  I`ll chaulk this to the  list of wrong choices that I see the community has made. ex. n-word is ok for black folks to use only

And I'll chalk it up to the ongoing dumbing down of our student population, by "professors" who just believe they know better than the rest of us serf

in matters of education I place the bulk of the blame  on parents. I hear way too many of them say thiers kids don`t need to learn algebra, history, eng. lit. etc. but the cost of it is totally on schools predatory practice.

Some blame, yes.  But only a minority, for me.  I blame "the bulk" on professors such as the one currently highlighted in the opening post

This is one single person and you clowns think that she is typical of each and every history professor in the country, and that all history professors do is sit around and figure out stupid shit they can say to get on Fox "News".

It's a free country, and we have academic freedom. Debates can serve to make people think.

In a country where the Democrats are called the "racist party", some people need to think.

Umm...no, she doesn't represent "every" history teacher.  She represents the predominant liberal teacher, in today's society.  Let's ask this.....is she wrong in her historical claim about Mumia?, yes or no, please
