« on: September 30, 2014, 11:13:43 AM »
it doesn`t say it but my friends and family repeatedly say that`s whats going on there. absolutely no businesses are physically are touched. I`m not sure this qualify as a riot.

It is not a riot, it is a legitimate protest.

China wants to limit candidates for leaders to people it likes. The people of Hon Kong want to have truly free elections in which anyone can run.

If they can convince the PRC government that restricting elections will cost them money,I think that  they will give in.

Two or three million people in the street are very convincing.

I wish them luck.

Economically, Hong Kong is a great asset. China would do well to just let them elect anyone they choose.

that is true. basicly all china has to do is sit and do nothing and hong kong will keep dumping money on them but china doesn`t think like that ever.

China wants stability, and that requires income. Hong Kong was run by the British with no elections for years and years, and the residents did not complain. The people demonstrating do not trust the PRC government and all they have to do is to get the government to win that trust by allowing a real democracy.

but shanghai is becoming quite a money maker due certain advantages hong kong doesn`t have ex. labor. but globally hong kong is still ahead by a very good margin. the question is still 'does the prc knows this'. I`ll say this for all us Chinese we love and take pride in china but in the same breathe we got no trust in the government and how it does things.

It makes no sense to say, well, we have Shanghai, we do not need Hong Kong.

That would be olike the US saying, Well we have NYC, we have no need of Los Angeles.

I really do think it`s very possible for the prc to think like this.

I don't doubt this. I just disagree on the wisdom of the policy. Not that my opinion is going to change the stance of the PRC.

This is a possibility. The CIA did crap like this in Latin America, Indonesia and other places.
Acting against the public's wishes is not linked to particular politics.

The demonstrators in HK seem to be very clever. I imagine they have some sort of plan to counteract this.

I have no respect for Jim or his stupid blog.
Blocking streets is not an act of aggression, and does not merit capital punishment.
