Vladimir Putin
« on: November 23, 2014, 10:30:32 AM »
Quote
Putin's comments also point to concern about outside interference. He said on Tuesday the United States is trying to subjugate Russia, blames the West for the overthrow of a Moscow-backed president in Ukraine in February and accused Washington of stoking protests against him in the winter of 2011-12.

The annexation of Crimea in March and a surge of patriotism, in Russia over the crisis in Ukraine, fed by pliant media, has boosted Putin's popularity at home and neutered the opposition.

Do the Russian people like a little repression?

The Russians have always thought that Crimea should be part of Russia. Many think that Russian speakers in Ukraine should either be Russians or have special minority rights.

Many Russians thing that Ukraine has been extremely incompetent at running their country. It is very hard to disagree with this.

The CIA was probably involved in some degree of support for the removal of the last pro-Russian Ukraine president.

Russians have always favored a strong leader, une the British, who ejected the racist and classist Churchill from 10Downing Street as soon as they no longer needed a strong leader.

Do Russians have some potential for learning that they have a stronger government than is good to have?

I have no idea.
Russians seem to mistrust everyone and their motives. They are a cynical people. Many seem to believe that only a strong man can rule a chaotic place like Russia. Gorbachov was a reasonable fellow and he was thought of as weak and incompetent.

I would not vote for Putin, even if I were Russian.  But Russians are not into compromise and do not favor legislating pragmatic solutions. They will get pragmatic when the culture or the state does not allow them to do as they are supposed to, though.

OK,  I really don't get that.

If President Obama were more forceful , he might be pushing us all the further the wrong way.

We need a President Jesus. Everyone knows he was for less government.

I am pretty sure Jeus was for less gvt
Jesus was not about "forced charity"
Because "forced charity" is not charity at all.
Forced charity is not from the heart.

Jesus was not in any way a productive individual. Asa carpenter, apparently he produced few pieces of furniture and retired to lead essentially a band of beggars about Galilee and Samaria and make cryptic remarks about the Roman domination.

Who is to say, that had Jesus been named leader of Palestine/Judea/Israel that he would not have exiled all the swine, banned ham and made making cheeseburgers a crime punished by banishment?

Not surprised you do not "get" Jesus.

But since you brought him up , we may as well enjoy his company.

Jesus was all about his kingdom, but not interested much in secular government.

Mark 10:14

When Jesus saw this, he was indignant. He said to them, “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these.

Mark 10:15

Truly I tell you, anyone who will not receive the kingdom of God like a little child will never enter it.”

I was severely indoctrinated with all that Christian crap by my mother and that most ghastly punishment of kids who want to have fun in the summer, Vacation Bible School. Unlike you, I sensed the tons of illogical premises upon which the Bible is based, I have read and studied the thing far more than most Christians, but it is mostly just advertising crapola. Yeah, sure, I understand that the schtick is to indoctrinate little kids before they are incapable of logical thought so they will not question.

You seem incapable of seeing that there is an immense chasm between the Christianity and the Capitalism that you worship.

Oh?

Is this a ripe topic for discussion?
