Gun sale background checks
« on: November 28, 2014, 12:17:00 AM »
http://www.msn.com/en-us/news/us/fbi-data-show-thousands-of-gun-sales-beat-checks/ar-BBfVOhd

This article is not perfect, it includes a little bit of sloppy thinking, but it includes a few interesting facts.

Quote
In this Nov. 18, 2014, photo, Valerie Sargo, a researcher, simulates a check done for the National Instant Criminal Background Check System or NICS, at the FBI’s criminal justice center in Bridgeport, W.Va. NICS did about 58,000 checks on a typical day in 2013. That surged to 145,000 on Black Friday.

Quote
Americans are buying more than twice as many guns a year now as they did when the background checks were first implemented in 1998.

All the facts in the article are counts of leagal sales, illeagal sales are harder to count.

I think it was fortuitous that Michael Brown was not packing heat.

Duh!

Don't you think that he might have shot the cop?
Is that not fortuitous?

So you think the cop innocent?

I think it very likely that this is the case.

Ten Percent of the policemen who get shot in the line of duty are shot by their own weapon.

It might have been happening again this time.

I like the idea of Police becoming more like Japanese Police.

In Japan the police are formidable , is that training available on a larger scale?

Darren Wilson was not guilty o anything. He was, however, unskilled at dealing with a guy like Michael Brown.  He needed some pepper spray or a taser. He could have purchased either or both with his own money. I bet that after this, many cops will do exactly that.

Mace is like teargas, and not something you would use in a confined space like a car.

Even if he had driven away, called for backup and waited until it arrived, before Brown got to his car, this would have resulted in a better job of protecting and defending Ferguson.

For a jaywalker?

Contributing to a city having dozens of businesses burned down is preferable to the city than letting a kid kipe some cigars and then wait to identify him from the store cam photo. Drive down the street and call for backup. Someone down the block from my house was arrested, and the cops did nothing until there were SIX patrol cars outside.

Do you think that the officer had some reason to believe that the jaywalker was anything worse than just a jaywalker?

It hardly matters.

What happened was (a) not in the best interests of the community of Ferguson (2) and avoidable.

    A.) Yes , indeed.

B.)  No , it isn't possible that any community will be completely free of hotheads and idiots.
It isn't even possible to purge a police department so well that there isn't one fool there.

It isn't likely either that all police work can be done with teams of policemen.

I do like the idea of policemen learning a lot of barehanded combat techniques.

But a recent incident in New York where a team of police took down a man barehanded caused a fatality.http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2014/11/29/grand-jury-decision-eric-garner_n_6240348.html

There isn't anything that cannot go wrong.

It is perhaps not ALWAYS avoidable, but in this case, it was.

Absolutely.  Had Brown complied, he'd still be strong arming convenience stores

I do believe that vest cameras will be starting to spring up on a majority of patrol officers now

Wilson knew that the convenience store had his photo recorded. Therefore, it would not have been all that hard to identify him and bring him in.

What Wilson did not protect or defend Ferguson. It would have been impossible for Brown to have stolen enough to amount to even a twentieth of what was burned and destroyed due to his unthinking incompetence.

That's not how law enforcement works.  If that were the case, why have policemen patrolling the streets??   ::)

What Wilson did not protect or defend Ferguson.

What Wilson did was protect & defend himself, from a much bigger and stronger thug, who was charging him.  So much the better had Brown shot him in his own squad car, wouldn't it

It would have been impossible for Brown to have stolen enough to amount to even a twentieth of what was burned and destroyed due to .......

..... messers Sharpton, JJ, Obama, Holder, and the MSM that we can thank for that
