cop body camera

a push for these devices are in the works and it`s stated their is no negatives to this. I take that challenges and say this will encourage lower performance since the officer will take less risk and this will lower apprehension of criminals. remember the camera also records unneccesary risk also and that`s punishable too.

Sometimes a camera can record things that no witness notices.

    Cameras are becoming ubiquitous.

Privacy does not mean what it used to.

You have had security jobs Kimba, would you have wanted one of these things?

Would you control what it recorded or would it take in everything?

I`d would love it. would push the boundry`s of what is acceptable. for years I`ve been inapropiately sctratching myself in front of cameras. haven`t got a complaint yet. I`de probly show a lot of skyshots to look like I`ve steering into sun like I get distracted easily

Is it someone's job to watch many hours of boring tape?

Or is it not reviewed until something happens?

it`s not reviewed unless needed. it`s just simply no need or practical to pay somebody to look at all of it. but at this volume it`s very important to log everything accurately. people will laugh that this should not be mentioned but human error on this matter can have severe outcomes.

Body cameras will be soundly despised by some cops, I am sure.

I think that both cops and those they stop will try harder to not look like dicks knowing that they are being recorded, and if they act like docks, tomorrow their kids will go to youtube and seeing the old man acting like a dick.

Body cameras will be soundly despised by some thugs, criminals, and crybabies.

The governor has to sign this, or it will not be legal.
I don't think this is a good idea.

Love it!

I agree......it'll severely curtail any attempt to lay claim to some form of police brutality or supposed "targeting" of anyone other than a possible criminal/thug.  To placate the xo's, yes, it'll also help keep wayword cops more in line with dept policy in dealing with suspected criminals/thugs

The only downside is the amount of camera footage taken compared to the actual recording of specific/important events is going to be huge, especially in cost.  So, the question then becomes is the camera:
- on at all times (not financially feasible, when someone has to go throw every officer's video feed)?
- only turned on when an officer signals that he's initiating some action via radio?
- automatic to when the patrol car is placed into park?
- Is it turned on/off by the officer? (I don't support that, since its too easy to suddenly be in a moment of burst activity, and simply forget)

I have recently seen 1 Terabyte drives on sale for less than $60. That is not a huge cost.
They can erase most of the data when there are no complaints and therefore no need for keeping it.
If it prevents a few mega lawsuits,  it will pay for itself much of the time. The Rodney King case cost a huge amount of money.

The cost isn't the storage or even how big a drive can be.  The cost is in the manpower to review every minute of video from every officer.  That said, it will stop a ton of bogus lawsuits, in their tracks
