Isis looses some appeal
« on: December 20, 2014, 01:28:45 PM »
http://www.msn.com/en-us/news/world/is-has-executed-100-foreigners-trying-to-quit-report/ar-BBh2i2G

How many young people read this article with dismay or worse , disbelief?

I understand the appeal of joining up with Robin Hood, The Abraham Lincoln Brigade , the French Foreign Legion, a Crusade or whatever.

The KKK used to have a lot of this sort of appeal, so did the American Bund, the shine wears off when the truth becomes better known as brutality and hypocrisy.

I doubt that Robin Hood was always very gentle , but we would not still be talking about him if he was better known for shooting his own merry men.

There is no reason whatever for non-Muslim Westerners to join Isis, other than (a) a suicide wish or (b) gross stupidity.

Don't underestimate (B).

Right now it should require a lot of (B) for even a committed Muslim to see Isis as appealing.

I can agree with that.

It is a demented reactionary movement, like Boku Haram in Nigeria.

There are over six billion people on this planet, so there are sure to be some nuts enough to think that ISIS is in some way a worthy cause.
Joining it is like the nuts that kill a bunch of people, then commit suicide. But those who die fighting for ISIS are far more likely to die without even the publicity that one gets from a mass murder suicide.

Iran has to be very concerned about where this game is going.
If ISIS takes over Iraq, Iran will have it's hands full.

Syria and Iran do not share a common border.  Iran is Shia, and ISIS is Sunni, but other than that, Iran's biggest problem is the blockade by the US.

Syria and Iran do not share a common border.

ISIS is not only in Syria....they are very much in Iraq too who does share a border with Iran.
In fact in June 2014 ISIS actually took control of Mosul & Tikrit Iraq...next door to Iran.
Later that same month Obama sent more troops to Iraq.

Iran has two serious problems with ISIS....
ISIS threatens both Syria and Iraq.
Iraq is Iran's neighbor and Syria is Iran's close ally.
Shia Iran does not want extremist Sunni ISIS taking over Syria and Iraq.
If ISIS took over Iraq and Syria that would be a NIGHTMARE for Iran.
Thus Iran was the first country to pledge assistance to Iraq to combat ISIS.
Iran has also launched air strikes against ISIS in Iraq.

Iran has been involved in the Shia vs Sunni struggle for centuries. Neither side will ever convert the other.

Iran's biggest problem now is the low price for oil and the embargo that has caused runaway inflation.
