  I get the feeling that PETA membership votes straight Democratic.

  Which is a harsh light on Democratic candidates and their party.

   Should the Democratic party welcome Peta and give up the votes of chicken eaters or vice versa?

I imagine that a lot of PETA people do not vote at all.

There are no laws against treating poultry inhumanely. They might as well be mangos or avocados as chickens or turkeys.

I like eating chicken, but the poultry industry is very cruel to chickens. PETA will never convince people to stop eating animals.

There are such laws , but they aren't tight enough to make poultry really comfortable.

"Free range "  birds are available at premium prices , the chickens that are mass produced are just a lot cheaper.

Having a delicious protein that is easily affordable serves the people well , tho it reduces the quality of life for  the birds .

This is going to bite us eventually , the crowded birds are soaking up a lot of antibiotics and reducing the potency of the antibiotics.

You are wrong.There are no laws regulating the treatment of poultry at poultry farms. There are only regulations related to possible health problems that the chickens might give to humans.

There are laws , but they are intended to prevent wanton cruelty , not hunting or farming or pest control.

Ordinary farming practice is not cruelty , but it does fall far short of the treatment a human being should have a right to expect.

Some of these laws are recent and there may be more coming.

Would it be a good or a bad thing to make chickens very comfortable , and make this protein expensive and unobtainable by the poor?

The balance to strike is to be reasonable, this isn't easy for government.

Summary:
This comprises Georgia's anti-cruelty provisions.  Under the statute, "animal" does not include any fish or any pest that might be exterminated or removed.  A person commits the offense of cruelty to animals when he or she causes death or unjustifiable physical pain or suffering to any animal by an act, an omission, or willful neglect. Any person convicted of a violation of this subsection shall be guilty of a misdemeanor, but subsequent convictions incur enhanced penalties.  A person commits the offense of aggravated cruelty to animals when he or she knowingly and maliciously causes death or physical harm to an animal by rendering a part of such animal's body useless or by seriously disfiguring such animal.

which is otherwise permitted under the laws of this state or of the United States,
including, but not limited to, agricultural, animal husbandry, butchering, food
processing, marketing, scientific, research, medical, zoological, exhibition, competitive,
hunting, trapping, fishing, wildlife management, or pest control practices or the
authorized practice of veterinary medicine nor to limit in any way the authority or duty of

the Department of Agriculture, Department of Natural Resources, any county board of
health, any law enforcement officer, dog, animal, or rabies control officer, humane
society, veterinarian, or private landowner protecting his or her property.
(f)(1) Nothing in this Code section shall be construed as prohibiting a person from: (A)
Defending his or her person or property, or the person or property of another, from injury
or damage being caused by an animal; or (B) Injuring or killing an animal reasonably
believed to constitute a threat for injury or damage to any property, livestock, or poultry.
(2) The method used to injure or kill such animal shall be designed to be as humane as
is possible under the circumstances. A person who humanely injures or kills an animal
under the circumstances indicated in this subsection shall incur no civil or criminal.....

It is very rare when anyone is fined or punished for being cruel to a chicken.
Perhaps if you were to torture a hen in the park you might get a fine. But some poultry processor that dismembers  chickens alive in a processing facility is in no danger of prosecution. There are many states where if you were to film them doing this and put it on youtube, you might get fined or even jail time.
