The latest Police officer involved ........
« on: July 22, 2015, 05:00:58 PM »
....something.    ???    Initial reporting has a Texas State Trooper pulling over a motorost for an apparent non-signaling of a lane change.  Now, before Professor Hyperbole steps in to throw out all sorts of racist accusations for anyone daring to not criticize the officers or not declaring some form of hate crime, let me be the 1st to squlech that thought process in that I have a hunch, as in something doesn't smell right.

We still need far more detail and specifics to engage in sensible conclusions, however initially it appears that this officer was very polite in pulling over a woman, who I actually believe her, when she was claiming she was moving over when she saw the officer behind her.  At that point, I would have simply given her a warning, and that would have been the end of it.  The officer however decided to giver her a citation, which would legitimately make anyone upset

Now, from there, the problem starts to tread the opposite direction from officer's conduct to the motorist's, when the officer asks her kindly to put out her cigarette, and she refuses.  He asks her to step out of the car, and she refuses.  At this point, she's in the wrong, even if she were in the right.  When an officer gives you a lawful order, you comply.  You can huff and pull all you want, but you comply.  You can light up another cigarette as soon as you drive away.  Well, as she was now resisting, you can imagine things got out of control, and she was arrested.

----------------------------------------

Now, if that were the end of this, she brought this on, with her non-compliance, even if she was absolutely telling the truth as to why she changed lanes without signaling.  However, we now know that 3 days later, while in police custody, she's been found dead.  This could not have been a suicide, and I can't envision how she could have accidentally died.  Which leads to 2 other scenarios...homicde by another prisoner, that occurred under the Police's watch.  Or worse, homicide by the police themselves, but under what possible motive.  Something seriously doesn't smell right

No one should be locked up for failing to signal a lane change.

There is no justifiable reason to ask her to put out a cigarette or to get out of the car, either.

If he was going to write a ticket, that is all he really needed to do.

And she should definitely NOT be dead.

No one should be locked up for failing to signal a lane change.

And NO ONE WAS LOCKED UP FOR FAILING TO SIGNAL A LANE CHANGE.  IN THIS SITUATION, SOMEONE WAS LOCKED UP FOR FAILING TO COMPLY WITH OFFICER'S LAWFUL INSTRUCTIONS AND RESISTING ARREST

Let's focus on what is, vs what never was.  For instance, what one person believes is or isn't justified about officer's instructions, is irrelevent.  When an officer gives you a lawful instruction, you comply......simple as that.  If you think it was completely unjustified, YOU STILL COMPLY, then afterwards, light up that next cigarette, and get on your home computer to write up a stern formal complaint to submit to the Police's IA Dept.

WHAT YOU DON'T DO IS RESIST

---------------------------------------------

Now, let's address the greater concern......how did she die.  That doesn't pass the smell test

Professor Hyperbole appears to have blown a gasket.  Can we call 911?

Call the local guys in white coats, before you say something else stupid, yeah.

It has to be really hard to justify execution for illegal lane changes. You seem to think that the cops all ought to be like the failed prototypes for Robo Cop.
The only thing that was perhaps justified here was writing a ticket.

The hyperbole is reaching a near apocalyptic level.  You really need to have that looked at.  What exactly do you think i believe is "justified"?  Just so that we can keep tabs on how many things you get wrong in this thread alone

I agree.  The officer really pushed the buttons that set her off, and definitely has some culpability in triggering the frakus.  She still should have complied, and based on the video of the initial stop, she may have been able to get a nice little settlement out of the Dept

Now the reporting is that she did have a previous suicide attempt, was also said to be depressed.....but....there's no reason for her to have committed suicide.  I have prescious little facts to go on, as this is really all just speculation, but compared to the other high profile debacles that took place with the police in Missouri, NY, Baltimore, where the facts didn't indicate any police abuse or racist incentives, this just really smells

This woman was recently hired by Prairie View State University. It is not typical for people about to take a new job to commit suicide.  Police should always be aware that being stopped by some cop is a very high stress situation for many people, and they should not make unnecessary demands on them. He was out of line to tell her to stop smoking: that posed no danger to him.  There was no reason to ask her to get out of the car.

Of course, to sirs, if the damned cop asked her to do jumping jacks and pushups and she refused, that would be grounds to run her in and stuff her in a cell.

It is possible that the policeman misbehaved , but also that the woman committed suicide.

The two things might not be as directly connected as they seem to be.

So further investigation seems like a good idea.

I understand there is a missing cell phone, one that could have been recording...
