But I can (and have) had dogs put to sleep when they have gone into kidney failure or developed other painful, incurable conditions. Can't do that for humans now, can you? And I really haven't looked, but I don't ever recall hearing of any laws against the abortion of animal fetuses, or protests against any such laws, if they should exist.

So why compare apples and oranges, so to speak?

I think it is agreed that we do have higher standards for humans than for animals.

We do not arrest cats for eating their offspring, which they occasionally do. Animals are just different.

Aborting kitten fetuses without the mother cat's permission would be a lower standard than aborting a fetus WITH the mother's permission. The latter would be the higher standard.

If you want something that really is different, then we should talk about the futility of comparing rhinoceri and carburetors,  diodes and mealy bugs, quartz and Helium.

I know this because I had an ex girlfriend who was a vet and helped out in a public spay and neuter clinic.
