How much does Obama believe the citizens to be morons?
« on: October 10, 2015, 01:24:04 PM »
Seriously......not only has he demonstrated an overt inability to adhere to even his own proclaimed standards of Constitutional limitations, what's now being reported is Obama's plan to again do an end around the legislature to try and impose...in this case...laws that are already in place.  Specifically, is to require background checks in firearm sales that are...already required. ANYONE who buy firearms from a dealer, are required to go through a background check every time they purchase a firearm, whether it's a "significant number" or one

.....not to mention, NOTHING Obama is planning on doing, outside of his Constitutional authority to do so, would have prevented any of the latest "mass shootings"

Still it is a great idea.
If you make it a lot of effort to buy a gun, then we will be free from mass shootings by lazy people.

............................ mass shootings by lazy people.

Does describe a real problem?

Many of the examinations of attacks afterwards reveal long term planning.

Lazy people can plan just like everything else. They don't act because they are lazy. Was Timothy McVeigh an industrious person? What was his job?
He might have been a lazy person.

Still it is a great idea.

How the hell is circumventing the Constitution to sign executive actions to impose laws.....THAT ALREADY EXIST, a "great idea"??

If you make it a lot of effort to buy a gun, then we will be free from mass shootings by lazy people.

And what exactly are these parameters for "lazy mass killers"??   Where's the study that provides any notion of where any of these previous mass killers were "lazy"??  News flash, there's already plenty of effort required, including MANDATORY BACKGROUND CHECKS.

Mandatory national registration is what is really needed. Then we register the mentally disturbed. Then it will be possible to run a cross check on the databases and find out how many disturbed and violent people own guns and can take some action to prevent them from going ballistic in some public place.

That would not have prevented even 1 of these "mass shootings", for something that is "really needed".

And where are these parameters for what constitutes a "lazy" mass shooter, that warrants executive action to impose law that already exists??

This requires trust in the government and in psychological science at the same time.

I doubt this trust is available.

We may be far above the Soviet Union , but that is the bottom of the slippery slope.

The Soviets were prone to classify dissidents as insane , after all, the state defined sanity.
The doctors and Psychologists of the Soviet Union went along with this mostly , of course , it was hard to become a Doctor as a dissident wasn't it?

I'm still trying to get over the notion of a "mental registration"....controlled of course, by the Government.  One can only imagine how abused such a data base could be made into.

There are clearly people who should not be armed. People who threaten others, people who tell us they hear "voices" tell them to do things.

And clearly the notion that some people shouldn't have access to firearms is one supported by most sane people, including the NRA.  The issue is HOW and WHO makes that determination, WITHOUT stomping on the constitutional rights of others.  To this day, there's still no "plan" by the left that makes any sense or would stop even one of these "mass killings" (and don't even get me started on the gun crime in those heavily gun restricted zones of Chicago, New Orleans, DC, or Detroit)  Banning guns is completely unconstitutional, so that's a non starter.  Gun registration wouldn't have stopped even one of these shootings, so that won't fly either.

So, what else you got?

If there is a line to draw , who do we trust to draw it?

I think I would be alright with declaring every registered Democrat unfit for gun ownership.

It is well known that this would catch a lot of the right people because Felons and gangsters tend to support Democrats tend to vote Democratic.

This might suggest also disarming Neo-Nazis and Communist party members, but probably not. The cost and harm involved would be too great.

Democrats could be persuaded to give up their arsenal bloodlessly.

Almost anyone else is going to fight in court and cost the government the equivalent of a new hospital and police station for every city in court costs, then fight on the street till the Watts riots seem paltry.

But there is another way to achieve the same change in ratio of arms held by Democrats vs arms held by Republicans and all others.

Encourage everyone who is not a Democrat to buy an extra gun, and a few cases of ammo.

This is so practical that it is already happening , thank you Presidents Clinton and Obama.

I would expect another President Clinton to engender another Republican gun buying spree.

     Perhaps the best ever.

      Yes.

Every cloud has a silver lining.

This reminds me of hate crime laws which people complain that existing laws are enough despite the very existence of hate crime laws are proof those laws are not being enforced.

Notice no focus on enforcing previous law on background checks here

Exactly, Kimba.  When you hear the left, you'd think over half the guns legally sold in this country, are done so without a background check.  The law REQUIRES background checks on all firearms sold thru any dealer, AND those sold at gun shows.  And in fact, as has been reported, some of these killers even passed background checks.  One of those didn't, yet was still approved by the Government.    :o

So the whole notion of "universal background checks" is a farce, since that's pretty much what we already have.  That doesn't stop black market selling, which is already illegal.
