The US interests in Syria have been traditionally linked to Israel.

Then there is a pipeline that Qatar wants built to take their gas (Qatar has LOTS of gas) to the Mediterranean. The Russians do not want it, as it would compete with Russian gas to Southern Europe. Tankers would be built, so whoever would be building the tankers would be for the pipeline as well. Surely US companies and banks have interests in these things.

The US would prefer that the Russians NOT have a base on the Mediterranean, either.

Putin would either shut down Texas oil and gas to keep Russia's price higher, or just move in and seize it, which is wHAt happenEd to Gazprom..
