Reagan was a good promoter and chose what to promote very well.

If Paul was into self promotion , why did he promote himself from one prison to another?

He had a more profitable job before he met Jesus on the highway, he left the career track , and took off on the tour of mendicant preaching.

Promoting Jesus is not a bad idea, if Jesus is the truth.

Otherwise , by Paul's own admission, it would be just a dumb thing to do.

Paul was apparently good at preaching, but lacked subtlety in dodging the authorities, which should have been rather easy, considering their corruptibility, lack of any decent sleuthing skills, and the general chaotic way the Empire was run.

Dumb things can be done skillfully. St Patrick was jailed once or twice, but he was not martyred. He was really good at magic.

   Paul generally presented himself to the authorities, though at least once he rappelled down a city wall.

      Did you know that Saint Patrick was not Irish?

       He was captured as a boy and made a slave by the Irish, he escaped and returned home , became a Christian and returned to his former captors as an evangelist.

      After all who needs saving more than a slaver?

I have read a lot of bios of St Patrick. The basic stuff is accurate, but there is a lot of Blarney in the parts about his miracles.
