Cliven Bundy: terrorist, or ignorant jerk?

Clive Bundy is an annoying, hateful racist scumbag that is guilty of overgrazing government land for years. He refuses to pay rent and hre claims that the Federal government does not own the land, but the fact it that they do. It was part of the Louisiana Purchase.

 

They should grab this old bastard and  throw his wrinkley ass in jail for  several years. Then they should seize his cattle, horses, and guns sell them and put the money in the Treasury. He is as disreputable an old coot as this country has ever spawned.

From reading this , it looks like a claim of overgrazing is weak, but Bundy's claim that he owes no rent is weak.

He isn't an especially sympathetic character, but it shouldn't be surprising that he gets a lot of sympathy, government behavior has been irritating even more people than Bundy's behavior could.

  The more basic question should be ,Is it proper for the Federal Government to own most of the land in a state?
  Is it proper to charge more in rent for grazing, than the cattle on the range are worth?

   Too bad Bundy is so garrulous, if he were better spoken, he would be more liable to win this.

   I have never been to Nevada , but I have been to Vieques, Puerto Rico. I was there employed by the US Navy helping to shoot it up.

    I do hate to say , this reminds me of that.

If the government were using Nevada as a bombing range, that would be different.
But this is not the case.

 The only thing the government wants to do with regard to the land it rents out to ranchers is let it recover from overgrazing. What happens is that the cattle at all the native vegetation and it gets replaced by sagebrush, tumbleweeds and plants that are poisonous to cattle. Overgrazing can also turn and area into a desert.

I don't see Bundy as anything other than a freeloader.

The Federal Government has so little respect for the people in this situation , I wonder how you do not sympathize. Should the Government have hung tough against the Puerto Ricans that live on the unbombed part of Viaques Island?
It is not different in any important way.
