This is not what it plainly looks like.

President Obama is NOT being pulled into the same force projection policies as Bush and Rumsfeld.

These policies are not needed and never were.

There are no boots on the ground, we are issuing sneakers to all of these soldiers.

President Gore would never have gotten us involved in Iraq.

President Gore would never have gotten us involved in Iraq.

This is an error of fact.
If  Al Gore had become President he would have been handed an ongoing war with Iraq , just as President Bush was.

The only choices were on how to prosecute the war.

No, because there was insufficient info about the WMD's. Iraq was NO THREAT top the US.
There were no smoking guns or mushroom clouds.
Juniorbush, Cheney and Rummy found the evidence they wanted to find, because they saw an opportunity after 911 to monger a war, which was always on their agenda.

Gore would NOT have mongered that war.

Unless I misunderstand what you mean buy "mongered" it was Saddam Hussein who did all the mongering and President Gore would have been presented only a choice of more or less , sooner or later , not whether or not to make war.
Clinton minimized that war so much that there were many Americans  unaware that we were killing dozens of Iraqis every week with acts of war.

Would Gore have chosen to make that low level war perpetual?

Juniorbush gave Saddam an ultimatum: remove himselfd and his sons from power, or he would invade. The warmongerer was clearly Juniorbush.

So he gave Saddam a chance to escape with his life.

That is better than Clinton did, he would have never ended the war in any manner.

Now that President Obama in the same circumstance is taking the same action as President Bush , you cannot see the need yet?

Some wars can be avoided and some cannot, it is terrible to mistake one of these for the other.

There's a line in the 2nd LOTR movie, where the King of Rohan proclaims "I will not risk open war"   Aragorn responds with "Open war is upon you whether you would risk it or not."

What "open war"?  The Muslim terrorists are not  an innumerable army of mutant orcs. They are just a rather small cadre of opportunists and fanatics;

We are not barricaded at Helm's Deep,

The issue isn't the "where", it's what we're doing about the threat.   There is a war being waged against us.  Pretending its not a big deal is analogous to hiding in Helms Deep

Bullshit. Isis is concentrating at present at not losing territory. The attacks are not planned by Isis, but by longtime residents of Muslims already in the various countries where they attack.

ISIS is expanding.   They are not some JV team, unlike a certain community organizer and chief tried to tell us that's all they were.  They're committing genocide against Christians and throwing gays off the top of buildings.   And if you don't think for a second, they're not plotting some mass terrorist attack in our country,  you need some serious therapy.  We are at war with radical Islamists, and no amount of Obama dancing, going to a baseball game, or playing golf, alters that fact

I think the Russians are retreating to avoid winning too soon.
