London has a new mayor
« on: May 07, 2016, 01:17:35 PM »
Sadiq Khan is Mayor of London
Tom Peck

He shared a platform with an extremist in the end. As the results were read out there could be no disguising the fact that London’s first Muslim Mayor was standing happily alongside the man who has, over the past few weeks, stampeded over the line of acceptable public discourse. A man who has fought the dirtiest campaign in decades, and right up there with the most unsuccessful too.

The result was overwhelming. 1.3m votes for Sadiq Khan. 900,000 for Zac Goldsmith. ‘The largest popular mandate in British electoral history,’ is a phrase you’ll be hearing a lot of. What it means is that Londoners came out in large numbers and were entirely unambiguous in their choice.  From Hackney to Hammersmith, Barnet to Bexley, the terrorist-sympathisers’ grip upon the capital is total.

There’s no point acting surprised. It’s not like you haven’t been warned. Brave Zac Goldsmith’s been telling you for weeks. Sadiq won’t stand up for Hindus. He won’t stand up for Sikhs. If you’re Tamil, he’ll steal your family jewellery. All this was well known, thanks to the brave leafleteering of the once thought moderate face of Conservatism. It weighed not a feather in the balance. In the early evening, even his sister Jemima had disowned him. “Sad that Zac’s campaign did not reflect who I know him to be,” she said. Too late.

“This election was not without controversy,” Khan said in a very short acceptance speech, delivered beyond midnight, the results having been initially expected at five in the afternoon. “And I am so proud that London has today chosen hope over fear, and unity over division.”

This is the first instance I have seen of a real person actually named "Jemima".
I think it is a Biblical name. But the use of Aunt Jemima as a brand of pancakes seems to have destroyed this name in the US.

There are plenty of Black Bens and Toms about that have nieces and nephews.
But the name "Jemima" seems to have suffered greatly.

I found this by googling: http://nameberry.com/babyname/Jemima

Job's eldest beautiful daughter bore this name.
She was offed by Jehovah  (he had not yet morphed into he Loviong God image) as a result of a bet with Satan. At least that is what the Good Book says. Pity.
She should have chosen a different father.

No. That is what some people say it says , not what it says.

And what did it say?

I know it said that  Jehovah wiped out Job's family, including the alllegedly lovely Jemima,  to demonstrate how slavish and loyal Job was.

If the Bible is the divinely inspired book of a religion about a Perfect Being, it should have been written well enough that everyone can read it and understand it.
Everyone knows what Ulysses went through, no one argues the causes of the Trojan War.

It is not written so poorly that you can find a wager being made in it at all.

What you do find is clues to the human condition and the nature of Satan.

And over and over the affirmation that bad things happen to good people.

So it isn't right to say that the afflicted deserve their afflictions!

           Some do , some don't.

              Judgmental friends are oxymoronic.

In any case, the cause of Job's afflictions were specifically Jehovah's failure to act,

Jehovah in the Book of Job, is a dick.

The entity you call "God" is a fictional Biblical character, and no, that character does not have the right to be a dick.
There is no denying that the harassment of Job was caused by this fictional "God" character.

Of course, "Job" is also a character. The tale seems to have been spun in order for priests to justify, albeit in some twisted manner, that the Universe is unfair and that all we can do is simply suffer unquestioningly and stop asking them perfectly logical questions

You must hope he is fictional with the same strength that I have hope he is the truth.

Job suffered pretty badly, but his story is a rebuke to anyone who wants to argue that misfortune , disease , poverty , powerlessness and loss are real evidence of Gods displeasure.

Perfectly Logical questions?
hehehee
You are not getting it.

The people in the story of Job that you are in strong agreement with are the criticizing Friends of Job.

Their "Logical" argument is that Job must have offended God , otherwise he would have no misery.

Your Mirrored argument is that because there is misery there is no God.

Don't shoot your own logic unexamined.

The entire Job tale is  fictional. Not to mention bullshit.

The message is "Believe the priests and keep sending delicious burnt offerings and cash, and quit yer kvetching."

It is against both logic and common sense.

Can't admit that it is hard to understand?

Lots of things are hard to understand. The fact that something is hard to understand does not any way make it true.

Occam's Razor says that the most logical solution to any problem is likely the least complicated. And the least complicated is to conclude that the entire tale of Job is a fabrication, since it clearly benefits the guys wiith a taste foe delicious burnt offerings and a need for a steady income ansd a cushy job that does not involve messing with sheepshit and living outdoors.

I suppose you are aware that Occam's razor is not logic.

Nor, in this case, does it complete an explanation.

What is the role of the priest in the story of Job?

Seeing as the story of Job does not feature a priest , nor any advisement trwards obedience of priests.

I think you have left the territory of Occam and have entered the range of non-sequester.<(Hahahahaa Spell check does not like "sequeter" I have to force it.)

There does not have to be a priest in the effing story for the stupid tale to be designed for the benefit of priests.

The message is basically, sit down, shut up and take whatever is given to you and stop bitching about it.

God is so much smarter than you that your thoughts are worthless and your complaining is futile.

Behave and comply.
