Christians Most Persecuted Religious Group In the World, Study Says

Christians are the most persecuted religious group in the world, with around 90,000 killed for their faith in 2016, the director of a leading religious study group has said.

Massimo Introvigne, Director of the Centre for Studies on New Religions (Cesnur), told Vatican Radio that around half a billion Christians in the world are unable to express their faith completely freely, while around 90,000, one every six minutes, died for their faith in the past year alone.

Referring to statistics from the Centre for the Study of Global Christianity, Mr Introvigne said around 70 per cent of Christians murdered in 2016 died in tribal conflicts in Africa. These deaths were included, he said, because very often they involved Christians who refuse to take up arms for reasons of conscience.

"The other 30 per cent, or 27,000, were killed in terror attacks, the destruction of Christian villages, or government persecution," he added.

He told Vatican Radio that the Catholic Church is currently considering possible sainthood for individual Christians killed in territories controlled by the Islamic State terror group. Some Christians, he said, had risked almost certain death by staying in these territories to give testament to their faith.

The statistics, due to be released next month, do offer some hope, however, as the number of Christians killed is down from 105,000 in 2015, although, Mr Introvigne points out, they remain the most persecuted religious group on the planet.

In March, the Chaldean Bishop of Aleppo reported that in just five years of conflict, the Christian population of Syria has been reduced by two thirds from 1.5 million to just 500,000.

The majority of those who remain, he added, live in areas controlled by the secular government of Bashar Assad as they flee Islamist rebels.

The city of Aleppo finally fell to government forces earlier this month, but much of the city, including its three cathedrals, is in ruins.

One issue we're extremely fragmented to the point we do not acknowledge each other let alone help each other.

Note it mention the vatican which automaticly make most in the us not bother. Christian is too broad a term today.

A baptist might not be able to pray in a baptist church because he's the wrong kind. That happen to one of our former president

Christians may be fractured, but Muslims are fractured to the point of actual brutal war with each other that are in daily headlines around the world.

Maybe because Muslims are slaughtering lots and lots and lots of innocent people in 2016.
The KKK may grab a headline once or twice a year....Muslims every day.
It's not even close!

but still they should get a" I didn`t do that" excuse . especially since some of  those christian that are persecuted are being protected by muslims. it`s just not that straight forward. also another reason i`m getting protective of muslims is i`m do think we cannot afford here in america to alienate them . way too many sikh are getting attack and some of the attackers just do not care they got the wrong person and it`s alot more complex than just muslims. 1980`s muslims are the most loyal americans in the country. the very reason we got so little incidents is because these guy are turning in the trouble makers. they are the largest owners of the book satanic verses.

the very reason we got so little incidents is because

actually the main reason for so little incidents is because Muslims have been a tiny portion of US population
of course Obama is frantically trying to change that fact...
pretty much as non-Muslim countries import Muslims the problems increase proportionally

This video....fact based....clearly shows what the problem is:

That was true for decades as the KKK flew the flag of "Defender of the Faith" as well as defender of the race. The burning cross was supposed to be an "illuminated " cross and inspirational .  But it was vulnerable to the language and example of Jesus, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. was able to appeal to Christians with the words of Jesus and the disciples and the example that they set . This was good to combine with the tradition of  Henry David Thoreau,Leo Tolstoy and Mahatma Ghandi for nonviolent protest.

Dr. King was very successful, some may quibble that there was also a lot of law enforcement and that the success was not total, but this quibbling does not disprove the point , that professing Christ the KKK became even more vulnerable to the word of Christ than they might have been if they were not trying to claim that their leadership was Christian. Their professed Christianity began to rob their authenticity, their every unchristian act became famous. Over the course of decades much has been learned.

Does Islam have this advantage?  Is there a Muslim teaching of peace that should rob the force from those who profess both piety and violence?

I did state christians are being protected by Muslims.  It's unknown how much of an impact they have.

I just think their extremely guilty of bad choices.  I know one guy who was shocked when I told him Hitler was not viewed positively.

That is inspiring.

I suppose it is human nature not to repeat good reports of an enemy, which indeed is part of our own problem.

If this story is widely known , and is accepted as heroism all around , perhaps a lot of people don't need to be counted as enemy.
