Dems Declare DEFEAT, Afraid to Negotiate with Trump
After He Manhandled Schumer In Last Showdown

By Warner Todd Huston

February 7, 2018

Unlike the last shutdown showdown perpetrated on Washington D.C. by the Democrat Party, it looks like the liberals are already declaring defeat before the next shutdown comes near. With the latest proclamations by Senate Democrats it is clear they don't have the stomach for another showdown with Trump after he walked all over them the last time.

In January the Democrats made a big, big show of refusing to support a continuing budget to pay to keep the U.S. government open for business. They refused to sign onto the budget unless the GOP supported amnesty for illegals and agreed to support Obama's so-called DREAMERs. But after a single business day New York Democrat Senate Leader Chuck Schumer folded like a cheap suit and backed off the shutdown threat.

Afterwards, literally everyone in government (and even in the left-wing media) said that President Donald Trump rolled Schumer in the shutdown negotiations. The universal pronouncement came down that Schumer caved in and got nothing out of the one-day shutdown. He got no movement on illegals, nothing on DACA, and no concessions on spending. In fact, the Republicans slipped more tax cuts into the budget and even rolled back Obamacare a bit more.

So, not only did the Democrats get no forward movement on their goals, they lost ground!

Trump absolutely rolled them.

But that last budget was a short-term fix and we are already getting near the next deadline for another budget bill to be signed. So, will the Democrats force another shutdown?

Seems the Magic Eight Ball is saying "no' to that.

According to BizPaccReview, the Democrats' number two man, Illinois Dick Durbin, was heard saying on CNN that he doesn't anticipate that his party will argue for another shutdown.

With the last government funding agreement ending this week, Sen. Dick Durbin, D-Ill, appeared on CNN's "State of the Union" on Sunday to say that his party will not be shutting down the federal government again, even though an immigration deal is not expected to be reached.

"There is not likely to be a DACA deal, though we're working every single day on telephone calls and person-to-person to try to reach this bipartisan agreement," said Durbin. "I don't see a government shutdown coming."

Capitulating before the shutdown date even nears. That is telling.

Durbin went on to try and claim that the left is "making progress" because "moderate Republicans" are coming his way on a deal for illegals. This is not likely true, but, then again, nothing Dick Durbin ever says is true. He is one of the most notorious liars in the entire upper chamber, and that is really saying something.

But, Durbin went farther. He even tried to move the goal posts and claim that this is all they wanted during the last shutdown drama.

"That's what we were looking for when there was a shutdown," he told CNN's Jake Tapper. "We have achieved that goal. We're moving forward."

That's amusing. In fact, the Democrats got nothing and are not moving forward on the issues they said they were pushing during the last shutdown. On top of that, they started the shutdown showdown saying their obstruction was a matter of principle and that any backing off was "un-American." Then, a day later they backed off.

Here is the fact:Trump is trouncing them on this. And they know it.
