There probably is a perfect, non-violent, high yield crime.
Carefully define"crime".
======================================
I would define a crime as some illegal and lucrative act.
I didn't say there would be no victims.
I also didn't say that I had any plans to commit any crime, perfect or otherwise.
Still a perfect crime would seem the better choice to anyone contemplating a crime.
A perfect crime would be, from the perspective of the criminal, a crime with resulted in no arrest or other detrimental consequences.
Art theft seems to be a non-violent, very lucrative crime. Stealing a valuable, and not overly famous painting from some wealthy and insured person or institution would only result in an increase in insurance premiums for a very few people who could easily afford it. There are a lot more art thefts than are reported, and most seem to be only discovered long after the thief and the victim are deceased, when some heir of the person who purchased the art tries to sell it.
It would seem that the inability to look at a painting or sculpture for a period of time would not be a major inconvenience to the 'victim'.
A lot of museums have many paintings in storage, and it is possible that if a copy were substituted for one of them, it might take decades ever to be discovered.
Kurt Vonnegut said that the greatest fortunes in this country were made by people who discovered immoral crimes for which no laws had been passed against.
The Bush and Cheney families have made vast fortunes because of the Iraq war, and I doubt that any of them will ever spend a day behind bars, lamentably.
Of course, what they have done involves thousands of victims and a major reward for the perps.
