True , but the language and the graphic and the symbolism is still interhuman comunication.

William Shakespee culd step in and learn to be an internet star faster than he could learn to type.

Though the medium is more than ever speedy and its size is vast , isn't it mostly still the same stuff that was scrawled on the wall soon after the invention of writing?

Or even soner......

Porn and gossip , must be 90% or so of Internet use , if the Internet is giving truth and understanding new legs , it seems that it is also giving lies and prejustice new wings.

Are we as humn beings going to be better off because we have the internet  ?

For the internet to be of value, users must be discriminating

So true.

It also does concern me that young people, particularly, are more into the Net and other forms of visual stimulation than the practiced art of reading. I am not entirely sure whether I am just out of touch and this is a perfectly fine phenomena or whether it is indeed a major cause for concern.

Seems to me the vast majority of my interfacing with web content involves reading the written word.

Good point, BT. However, I have noticed a tendency of young people to pursue "short and sweet" activities such as IMing. One of my stepchildren mentined the other day that they don't read anything on the Net if it is over a screenful as it is "too boring"

Ouch!
