Lesbian couples rarely ever depend on men for child support. Perhaps their brothers or fathers more than others.

I don't think what you say is sexist at all. But you are thinking in a rather traditional way about the women that might seek to have a child without male intervention. I would imagine that extracting cells from one person's DNA and implanting an egg fertilized with it in another person would be far more complicated and expensive than the usual method of insemination. My guess is that most if not all, of such cases, would involve two women (probably lesbians) deciding to have a child that was genetically related to both of them.

If this were the case, the cost of the procedure would restrict it to lesbian coupleswith no serious financial issues.

I am thinking Mary Cheney, who is quite unlikely to lack money for anything as a typical model for this procedure.

Not that we would find out about it until long after the child was born...

how about a wealthy wife not having access to her husband sperm.
deciding to secretly get this procedure.
and later on getting divorced.
sounds far fetch but not impossible.

This may make parthenogenesis practical .

A single woman could be both parents and not produce a clone.

I feel so superfluous.........

Well, doesn't it depend upon your view what "the church" is?

Fundamentalist and evangelical churches for sure would object, as probably the Catholic Church. The Unitarian-Universalist Church? Dunno.

However, this does bring up the issue of how religion  can effectively deal with the progress of technology and/or the introduction of any alien races (okay go with me here) . As an example, I remember when heart transplants were first being performed, some church leaders rebelled saying it was not Scriptural and so on.

How will "the church" deal with cloning, for example? Does a clone have a soul? Can Replicators or even "I
m sorry for what I did" Wraith or sincere Minbari enter Heaven? What if brain transplants are performed in a few years time? Can THOSE people go to Heaven? Can they be priests, pastors, deacons, elders? And on and on...

I have no opinion. Certainly, societal pressures should this become a more or less viable option financially will be entertaining though.

Pass the popcorn.
