The best rule to use is the Golden Rule and use the sort of tactic yourself that you don't mind an opponent useing.
Perception of errr is usually mutual , as much as you do indeed have a right to confrount the error you perceive, those in whom you perceive the error have the right to return the favor.
Is the problem with civility boredom? Does a conversation that isn't spiced with invective seem too bland?
I think of invective as cheap bcause I think of Proofs and logic as more valuable .
Proofs require research , logic requires mental effort , what goes into invective that makes it valuabe?
