Hi Fatman! Indeed, I have been to Petra a few times. This is a vacation to visit family; my sightseeing will be briefly in Amsterdam and Paris. :-)

Absolutely! Jordan doesn't have very stringent guidelines on bringing food, plants, etc., into the country.

I find the US ban on cheese to be absurd and in poor taste as well.

I can see why we might ban smuggling Velveeta or Cheez-Whiz OUT of the US, but we need more Gruyere, Camembert and Port-Salut in the US, not less.

If you ask the cheese store owner what to buy and when to eat it and with what, you will probably be delighted.

There is not a ban on French cheese.

There IS a ban on you importing your own cheese.

It is not allowed for you to bring cheese into the US on your own.

It sounds stupid, but this is a fact.

Dairy items such as milk, yogurt, butter are generally admissible, although this is subject to change, depending on disease outbreaks. Eggs may be admissible, although frequent outbreaks of Exotic Newcastles Disease and avian flu make it very likely that they will be denied entry. Hard cured cheese such as parmesan or cheddar are generally admissible, soft cheeses such as brie and soft curd cheese and cheese in water(ricotta, feta, etc.) are not.

Look, it's like this: no matter what the Hell the regulations say, when the plane is about to touch down, they ask if anyone has cheese or fruit. If you say you do, they take it away from you and they throw it away. Just imagine what would happen on an airliner if you demanded it back.The Fascist HSA would have you scrunched down with your face on the carpet and their knees in your back and your name would go on the "never allow on a plane again" list.


They do not read any crap about "generally admissible". They just take the cheese and never give it back. And you had better not complain. Dissent is not allowed on any plane.
