I think the overprotection and fretting over kids at an early age is what leads them to being dangerous to themselves, their friends and others later in life.
They're trying to feel alive.
My mother did not fret over me and in my teens, I was a little bit of what they are calling wusses but I also did normal stuff like sneaking out, trying stuff I had never tried and so forth, more boundaries stuff that physically dangerous stuff.
It never interested me to ride on top of cars or slide around on mattresses.
