It's not unheard of that a gay guy falls in love with a straight guy. Rowling didn't specifically out Voldemort as I understand it.

There is a caricter not introduced till the last book (no spoilers) that seems more likely because he and Dumbledore met at the same teen age.

You're right - it was the other dude (the one who introduced Dumbledore to the dark arts as revealed in the last book).

Having a thing for Tom Riddle would have made Dumbledore, well... ewww.
