I don`t anyone who threw theirs away.
when well taken care of they just don`t wear out.
especailly if thier not even used that much.
the need to buy new guns was never that great.

Hmmm....

There was a record number of guns sold during the Clinton administration , people were buying them as if they were going out of style.

Everyone who wants a Gun has one or two, so sales are going to "better" guns.

When we all have three ,includeing a better than advrage one the demand will dry up further.

You are right, a well cared for gun is good for a century.

even longer
quite afew of my friends got some collectable matchlocks
but to be honst none of them ever tried to use them
it`s just assumed they work.
but their really is no reason they shouldn`t.
guns are funny that way
you really need to maintain them ,just for safety reasons.
my gun permit test had a overview about maintanence.

If you get a really old one , it might not be good to fire modern amunition in it. The pressures tend to be higher.
Other than that I agree ,a gun that is used occasionally can last many years.

On the other hand There are the"assault rifle " sort of gun that gets fired a lot because rapid fire is fun ad surplus ammunition is cheap.
Fireing thousands of rounds that have the corrosive primers common in old surplus ammo is rough duty for  a rifle , if you buy a used AK47 or SKS type of "assault rifle" be sure to check fo signs of wear and abuse. Some of these will have fired ten thousand rounds.
