As for his "incompetency," he fought the Europeans, Japs, "Nationalists" and Americans, starting from the weakest of all positions; he kept his movement together on a 4,000-mile long retreat in appalling conditions; and in the end he led his people to a victory that laid the basis for what is now obviously going to be the major superpower of the 21st Century.  He more than anyone else is responsible for the transformation of a weak, starving, sickly and backward nation at the mercy of foreigners and their armies into the colossus that it is today.
====================================
Mao was a competent revolutionary, but he was very, very far form competence when he was in charge of the country. The Great Leap Forward had people melting down their pots and pans to turn them into useless ingots.

The Cultural Revolution took the best minds and sent them off to distant provinces to slop hogs. Not clever, not brave, just incompetent. You can't blame the US for either of these.

I say judge the guy on the whole of his accomplishment, good and bad.  Don't single out just the bad, unless it's so bad that it eclipses the good.  (e.g., Hitler)

Ok , he is not a competant a running a regime as Hitler , but he did run up a score of deaths in the same order of magnitude.

That's hilarious.  It is EXACTLY my family's take on Polish and Eastern European anti-Semitism.  Thank God for the fucking bastards and their God-damned ignorance!!!

How does anyone know he "raped little boys and girls" and who says he "murdered" millions?  He was leading a Revolution in a country of billions and a lot of people had to get hurt.  You think his Amerikkan puppet opponents didn't also murder millions of Communists?  GROW UP. You don't make an omelette without breaking a few eggs.

At the end of his Revolution, he had sowed all the seeds for a bigger, stronger, richer China than ever before in history.  THAT is Mao's legacy, and this twaddle about "raping little boys and girls" from someone who thinks the My Lai massacre was just a "bad decision" by a man who was under "too much stress" is just hilarious.  Well, if Mao ever DID rape little boys and girls (which I'll believe when I see credible proof and not before) then maybe that also was just a "bad decision" by a man under "too much stress."  At least Mao's child victims were left to live out their lives at the end of their ordeal, unlike Calley's.

<<What? No "the buck stops here" claims?>>

"The buck stops here" refers to real crimes and failures, not to imaginary events that never occurred.

Mao's goals of getting China to feed itself and becoming a major industrial power were commendable and have proven to be possible. But he was incompetent in his methodology and set the nation back decades.

Hu and the contemporary leaders do understand both how capitalism works and how Chinese society can take advantage of it. This is more than can be said of Fidel, who is equally sincere, but Cuba started out ahead of China and is lagging behind it in growth.

Fidel tries ever so hard: to the point of personally showing everyone how to save energy by cooking their rice and beans in a pressure cooker on TV, but Cubans these days are tired of the shortages that show no signs of ending. A tropical country should be able to produce enough food for everyone. Cuba doesn't.

China does, and exports a lot of food to the US.

Thanks, I followed the link and I hope you'll excuse me for laughing out loud.  The Future of Freedom Foundation, a libertarian "think tank" of three directors, all with nothing more than Bachelor's degrees from second- and third-rate universities, one of whom also with a law degree and 12 years experience as a trial lawyer, has published this learned treatise, the source of the "Mao raped little girls" myth.

From the Professor's link, I kid you not, word for word:

<<In 1994, Mao Zedong's personal physician, Dr. Li Zhisui, published The Private Life of Chairman Mao. Leading experts on Chinese communist history say that the book is authentic and accurate. >>

"Leading experts on Chinese communist history" - - NOT ONE OF WHOM IS NAMED - - say that the book is authentic and accurate.  Yeah.  And this Mickey Mouse watch that I'm selling you right off my own wrist was once owned by General Douglas MacArthur and before him by FDR himself.

Anyway, Professor, I wouldn't worry too much about it if I were you - - as we know, Chairman Mao was under a lot of stress at the time, and if he did make a wrong decision to rape a thousand Chinese virgins, I'm sure it was due to the stress.  The real villain of the story is that bastard, Dr. Li, for writing about it.  He's real scum.

He quite clearly offered the wrong gender to Mr. Kissenger.

What's that supposed to mean JS?  I've read quite a bit on Kissinger, and have never come across anything pointing to him being homosexual.  Do you know something I don't?

Or is this one of those cases where you call someone gay to insult them?

Why debate with you if you continue to find reasons to dispute facts? Must I spend hours locating more authoritaitve sources? Perhaps, but I simply haven't the the time. The man, regardless of his deed of expelling the Nationalists, was a pervert and personally was scum.
