Very likely true.  My wife and I both noted the absence of bugs on the beach, unlike many places in the Caribbean.

It's been a long time but I would guess the ones we saw in Florida, nose-tip to tail-tip were 8 to 10 inches, the one on the wall of our hotel room in Acapulco was maybe 5 or 6 inches, same green colour and general appearance as the Florida tribe.  The ones in the south-west of France (La Rochelle area) were like the Florida and Acapulco ones.  The big ones in Mexico were iguanas, they had no resemblance at all to the others.  Canada doesn't have any lizards like those, at least not in the Great Lakes and Atlantic regions.

You oughta see the ones in the Caribbean Islands...

Twice as big as the ones in Florida, and they're EVERYWHERE.

It is probable that they spray for bugs on the Beach and this kills the lizards.

Actually, it's more likely that since they eat the bugs, and the bugs are not there anymore, that they've moved to where the bugs ARE so they can eat.

Unlike humans, who refuse to move and then ask for government handouts...

The lizards are all over XO's back yard.  I think they sprayed the beach and it kills the lizards and the bugs.  Even walking through the dunes to get to the beach there weren't any bugs.

If there aren't any bugs on the beach, why do you think there would be lizards?

It's not like they head down to the beach for a suntan or something...

They're in XO's yard because XO probably doesn't spray for bugs.

I don;t spray for bugs. The county sprays for mosquitos, but that would be all the spraying my yard gets.
It would be logical to assume that since lizards eat bugs, they would not be where there are no bugs. But it is also possible that whatever kills bugs also kills lizards.

Dear Lord that's disgusting.   The thought of having one of those in my house makes my skin crawl.  To all of you who live in the South, you have my utmost respect, for I could never live somewhere where

A) cockroaches have a natural habitat (talking about temp, not trailer trash)
B) Said cockroaches have the ablility to fly

Here in the Pacific NW, the worst we have to worry about are mosquitoes that can carry your house away, and banana slugs.  I couldn't deal with the flying cockroach bit.

See, the problem is that you persist in calling them cockroaches.  To the natives, they're "palmetto bugs."  Makes all the difference.

On sultry summer evenings we play indoor badminton with the suckers.

I'm having a problem with a bear recently.  He likes to get into the garbage can, which has a screw on lid, so he knocks it out of the holder and pushes it around the yard.  My dog will sleep through anything and seems to be a pacifist when it comes to the bear, so he doesn't bark at it and I'm woken by the racket of the bear rolling a metal trash can through my yard.  I go out and yell at it and wave my arms, and the bear just looks at me like I'm stupid.

This has happened four times in the last week.

Bear season opens August 1st.

I could use a bearskin rug.

Cayenne pepper seems to work on skunks.  See how the bear likes it.

<<We here in Amerikkka appreciate your support of our economy and we promise to build more war materials with your donations.>>

I'm very glad to hear that.  We here in Canada are very grateful for your monumental fucking stupidity in mismanaging your economy and blowing half a trillion  bucks on pointless wars, which not only jacks up the price of our oil, but makes it possible to spend our money in NYC, Miami Beach and other fine American destinations without having to pay any more odious premiums on foreign exchange.  We hope that you will continue to conduct this ever-cheapening sale of your national patrimony for many years into the future and particularly recommend that you continue spending your money on war material rather than human or material infrastructure so that your downward economic spiral continues to accelerate and in future years our Canadian dollars will buy even more of your fine sunshine and beaches.
