I discovered Crusader Rabbit and his faithful sidekick Rags the Tiger the other day.
In Kansas City, they seem to have had difficulty finding sponsors, and Crusader Rabbit was a five-minute toon that would fill in between the "adult" shows (Arthur Godfrey) and the "kiddie" shows (Pinkie Lee) way back in the 1950's. I think it was the first TV series done by Jay Ward, who later came up with Rocky and Bullwinkle. In the Eastern Time zone, they got commercials, but in KC we got Crusader Rabbit. He was not a proselytizing Christian bunny: the name seems to have come from a large cross on his clothing, for he was a clothed rodent, not a naked rabbit like Bugs.
Rags looked like one of Tony the Tiger's relatives, not to mention Hobbes of Calvin and Hobbes. He gave Crusader Rabbit an interlocutor to talk to.
