Malik Obama confirms his half-brother Barack grew up a Muslim
By Israel Insider staff
June 13, 2008

Malik holds a photo of Obama and him in Muslim dress, reportedly when the two first met in 1985

Apparently the Obamas of Kenya have been reading those scurrilous emails to which Barack likes to refer, because they have no doubt --contrary to the claims of the Obama campaign, that the presidential candidate was raised a Moslem. They take that as a given.

As the Jerusalem Post reports, "Barack Obama's half brother Malik said Thursday that if elected his brother will be a good president for the Jewish people, despite his Muslim background. In an interview with Army Radio he expressed a special salutation from the Obamas of Kenya."

The Obama brothers' father, a senior economist for the Kenyan government who studied at Harvard University, died in car crash in 1982. He left six sons and a daughter. All of his children - except Malik -- live in Britain or the United States. Malik and Barack met in 1985.

In a remarkable denial issued last November that still stands on the official campaign website, Obama spokesman Robert Gibbs issued a statement explaining that "Senator Obama has never been a Muslim, was not raised as a Muslim, and is a committed Christian."

Apparently Malik Obama, himself a Muslim, had not read the press release.

Melanie Phillips is the most recent commentator to draw attention to the massive body of evidence that leaves no doubt that Barak Hussein Obama was born a Muslim (Islam is patrilineal) and raised a Muslim (so registered in school, acknowledging attending Islamic classes, reported accompanying his step-father to the mosque, and able to recite the Koran in the original Arabic).

Reuven Koret, Aaron Klein and Daniel Pipes have previously pointed to the attempts by Obama and his campaign to conceal the candidate's Muslim background. The well documented evidence draws upon the on-the-ground interviews by researchers in Indonesia and Kenya, published quotations of Obama's childhood friends and his school records, as well as the candidate's own autobiography.

It is not clear whether Barack Obama will now disown his half-brother Malik, or throw him under the campaign bus, for acknowledging that shared family background. In any case, some one should notify "Fight the Smear" tout de suite. Perhaps they can get him with the program.

Does it matter if he was raised Muslim? If so, why?

Even if he is a Moslem, which I haven't seen anything conclusive on, what difference does it make?

The Obama campaign beleives it will make a diffrence.

It doesn't seem like a deal killer to me , whether he is a Muslim or whether he isn't.

That he is a very liberal senator is more of a problem anyway.

But ...

If it is true and he has denyed it , is that a lie or something elese?

Exactly my question, if it doesn't make any difference why is the Obama campaign lying about it?

I say the same thing about a a gay candidate, if it doesn't make any difference, the democrats should run an openly gay for President.

I would welcome the Democrats running the first gay Presidential candidate, but I guess that cant happen this time,
but I would really cheer if Obama would choose an openly gay VP candidate that was also part of the new gay marriage movement.

After-all doesn't make any difference right?  ;)

That would be problematic.

Try really hard to wrap your minds around this concept: for a few years, Obama was raised as a Muslim. But at a later date, he decided NOT to be a Musli,m but a Christian.

Was that too hard for you? Was it painful?

This makes no real difference. It is a matter of semantics, anyway. His mother felt he was not being raised as a Muslim, but perhaps her husband (Obama's stepfather) did.

XO I suppose theoretically religion shouldn't matter, but do you think a person
openly running as a Muslim could get elected President of the United States in the year 2008?

So?

I was raised Southern Baptist.

Gave that up a long time ago as too intolerant. Found that same problem with most of the other religions I drifted through, so I gave up religion altogether.

I could give a crap what religion he was raised in, or even what he is now. I want to know that he stands for, how he stands on the issues. That's what I'm going to use to decide whether or not to vote for him.

Of course not. Neither could a practicing Buddhist, Shintoist, T'aoist, Druze, Jain, Athiest, Agnostic, Baha'i or Mormon.
Or a bald guy, anyone under 5'6", an ugly man or woman, anyone weighing over 300 lbs.
No one with the name Outlaw, Czgolsz, Ibarguengoitia, Gordfarb or Lipshitz would maker to the nomination.
This is hardly a tolerant nation.

Or Bush, either, but there would be a reason for that.
