2 golfers survive lightning strike in Flagstaff
Associated Press

FLAGSTAFF - Two golfers who sought refuge from a Flagstaff thunderstorm beneath a tree were injured when lightning struck the tree, destroying the Ponderosa pine and then passed through them.

Capt. Bill Morse of the Flagstaff Fire Department says when emergency personnel arrived Tuesday afternoon at the Aspen Hills Golf Course, they found the two men sitting next to their golf cart, conscious but disoriented.

Morse says "neither knew what year it was, but one of them knew their current golf score."
One of the men had obvious lightning entry and exit wounds, and the other had burnt hair and clothing, and one of his shoes had been blown apart.

Both men were taken to the hospital and at last report were in stable condition.

WOW!

I live among those very lightning strikes.
They are indeed deadly.

Lucky bunch of coconuts there.

The other day Headline News had a film clip. They do this "iReporter" thing where people film their own news reports and send in the video. Well, this lady was filming a bad thunderstorm to submit via iReporter and she was struck by lightning as she was filming. She sent the video in and they showed it on TV.

Lightning hits preacher after call to God
Lightning strike
The service electrified the congregation
A congregation in the United States was left stunned when lightning struck a church moments after a visiting preacher asked God for a sign.

Church members in the town of Forest in the state of Ohio said the preacher had been emphasising the importance of penance when, in the course of his prayers, he called on the heavens above.

The lightning struck the steeple, then hit the preacher himself when it travelled through electrical wiring to his microphone.

Local authorities said he was not injured.

"It was awesome, just awesome," said church member Ronnie Cheney, who was among the congregation when the strike hit, told the Findlay Courier newspaper.

"You could hear the storm building outside... he just kept asking God what else he needed to say.

"He was asking for a sign and he got one."

Afterwards services resumed, however churchgoers realised after 20 minutes that the building was on fire and evacuated.

"It was kind of interesting hearing the preacher talk about what had happened," Forest Fire Chief Doug Hawkin admitted.

The fire was put out after three hours, but damage to the church is estimated at around $20,000.
