The Power of Prayer
« on: August 31, 2008, 07:41:31 PM »
This hurricane is starting to look really really bad. It might not be a bad idea for everyone to say a prayer today.

Multitudes of people praying has proven to make a positive difference in the outcome of war, death, destruction and cancer.

Only for very low scales of "proof".

It makes the people praying feel good, but that's about the only part of it that's been "proven."
Do not anticipate trouble, or worry about what may never happen. Keep in the sunlight. (Benjamin Franklin)

There's a say out there - - if it feels good do it. That's something liberals understand all to well.

How can I prove to you that I have seen what I have seen
when I haven't got a photo and a photo can be shopped?

Raise the standard enough
 and nothing can be proven.

I have seen ,what I cannot prove to you I have seen ,
but , I have no proof that you exist.
so does it matter?

My existance can be taken on faith,
or can it ?Cognito Ergo Sum.
I am not likely to be nothing
but Je pense donc  je suis does nothing for you

You are not here , you are not seen ,
what you say I could cognito for myself
given an illusion of suffecient power.
Je pense donc je suis for yourself
But how to connect between us?

What can tell me you arn't just a shadow on the wall of my cave?

Can a thought I cannot think be produced and shown as proof thay you have thought it?
Or would any such thought necessacerily be incomprehansable to be since I can think everything I can understand.
Whether all life and all Matter may be illusory has been a quandry since anchient times.
Thank you Descartes ,at least ,for letting me live.

Studies have been done. The recovery rates for ill people in blind studies - where some are the recipients of prayers and some are not - are the same.

The recovery rate for people who KNOW that others are praying for them (and they are believers as well), however, is higher. If the recipient of the prayer is NOT a believer, on the other hand, it doesn't matter if they know that others are praying for them.

It all points to a psychosomatic effect.

Are you able to benefit from this Psycosomatic effect?

Anybody is. Studies have shown that people who are optimistic of recovery tend to do better; that's the gist of it. "Prayer" to the faithful is just a show of optimism.

Eighty seven studies?

Optomism and the placebo effect might fight the depression that would be the last straw in a marginal case.

But Prayer isn't always cheerfull.

So far ,the winds have reduced and the Levee is still holding , due of course to the Psycological effect.

Let us thank God as we are or are not wont , there never will be proof , tho there is ever so much faith.
